I'm on the fence about selling my XL to get a 2500 with JJ OS. My biggest concern is MIDI timing when sequencing external gear. How does a JJ OS 2500 compare to the XL?

I have the akai 1.24 and there is not real problem with it I have the MPC3000 and the 2000

the 2000 was solid for miding I have found that there was a few bugs with the 2500 and it concerns me but a few tweaks it will be fine nothing really to worry about.

You will like it but not be blown away with it the chop shop is okay but it is better than the 2000 and the XL slightly....

Well I am blown away with the features in JJ OS, specifically the Grid sequencing.

What I really need to know is this: Is the 2500 with JJ OS gonna be as rock solid in the timing department as my XL? Anyone out there who has compared the two?

Come on, peeps. I've done pleanty of searching on the internets and this forum without an answer. Anyone know?

Cheers!

first users don't complain about the timing in jjos.
folks who have switched from the 2000 don't complain about the timing in jjos.

in fact, it's not even really discussed- because it ain't an issue! that should put this concern to rest.

With all due respect, I'd still like to hear from anyone who has made the comparison.

by all means, me too
there are tons of ways to carry out this comparison, one would have to set the rules/test and then perform it.
don't know how many people have both the 1000/2500 and the 2000xl

it is necessary that one person test both in the same environment, and that's rare

As was already said, the timing is not an issue, at least not so much that people would feel the need to create threads complaining about timing issues. Try using the search feature to see if anyone has mentioned any issues regarding the timing being off.

In fact, I remember a thread a while back regarding JJ OS 1 somehow improving the timing accuracy of the 2500. It had graphical examples as well.

This is no doubt the case. Question is: did it improve the timing enough to measure up to the XL? I'm interested in hearing from anyone who can test this. The search function has produced zero results on this particular comparison.

Opinions are well and good, but I prefer science.

You're in he wrong place for science!

It's been a while since the last timing discussion raged. Here is one:

http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=98547&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=timing

There are a few links in that one as well, to other ones that are similar in nature.

I can't remember if anyone has specifically tested the 2500 (with/without JJ) against the 2000xl...

I am in no position to test this extensively at the moment, but I could do a simple phase test later next week.

I see what you are saying T7. You want a comparison of the 2000XL's timing and the 2500's timing.

My post didn't really state any opinions. If you are more interested in science than opinion, does it really make much sense to post up this question on a message board (where virtually everything is an opinion)?

Especially since you mentioned that you have searched and searched for this topic and have found zero results, it seems to me that there probably aren't very many people who own both the 1000/2500 and the 2000XL or have had both machines in their hands at a particular point and managed to do a timing test/comparison between the two.

If you are really passionate about looking into this, then I suppose at this point it would make sense to do the test yourself. Maybe rent the machines or borrow the machines from people you know who have them, run the experiment yourself, and record you observations. You know, like how scientists do.

I can only test the timing on the 2500 with JJ OS 1 though. I have never had the 2kxl. I came from the 2000.
