My MPC2500 running JJOS2XL seems enjoy randomly deleting parts of my tracks for no apparent reason. Twice now it has deleted the last 2 bars of an 8 bar sequence in the majority of the tracks in that sequence for no determinable reason. Then I thought I would have a play with changing the T/C and rather than moving notes the majority of them just went from most the patterns, but strangely some sections stayed even though they were on the same beats but in different bars.

I hope it's just a temporary glitch and not a problem with my machine/the software as it really is starting to get on my mammaries!

definitely never had those problems

wice now it has deleted the last 2 bars of an 8 bar sequence in the majority of the tracks in that sequence for no determinable reason.

this just sounds like you accidentally truncated your sequence, dont know about the other stuff though...but please be more detailed, you didn't even say what track type/edit mode you were in!

Yeah I understand that exactly what it sounds like and what I would of asked if the poster was sure hadn't happened but that's not the case (at least not the second time.)

Created a project from new, main interest in learning the Chop facility of the MPC (although still hoping to develop it into something I may use so setting it out in the layout I have decided to try first with live using track mutes. First 4 tracks different kick drum parts over MIDI to my synth so I can tweak the sound live. Track 5 first break, chopped and sequenced so it plays as usual (plan is to then chop and glitch over next three tracks.) Similar with track 9 but different break. Track 13 - 16 different fills and rides. Samples, effects and synth parts will come later.

It was either track 9 or 13 I had got to no issues. Hit play and found the first load had suddenly truncated 2 bars short, which I'm pretty positive I had never done as I had never had to lengthen the length of the sequence (although I quite often had to shorten it by a bar due to how copy and paste seems to work. Still getting my head around that a bit...)

How the bit that makes me 100% positive it can't be due to accidentally shortening the length of the sequence. I have been working on this while on a late-shift at work and it was time to go home. Checked each track played through correctly, nothing missing. Went to save and saved everything (I need to stop doing that as I'm wasting space fast but need to sus exactly how saves of different types differ.) Everything should be hunky dory on reloading the project right? Wrong! Exactly the same tracks that had lost the last couple of bars earlier had it missing again when I loaded the project up tonight. The last few tracks I entered had information in the whole 8 bars and if it had been due to shorting the length of the sequence then all the tracks would of only had 6 bars of information.

I'm guessing the T/C thing may of been to be expected though as people say be wary of it. Was just strange how different parts lost different notes even though they were entered in exactly the same points using grid edit.

(EDIT: OK so not recreateable by these steps but this is what I just did when it happened again.)

OK just happened again and this seems like it might be easy to recreate and surely can't be correct behaviour!

Create a few tracks, doesn't matter if Drum or MIDI of 8 bars length.
Copy and paste some selected notes (say 2 bars worth) and accidentally paste too many times so you increase the length of your sequence by at least 2. (seems to be OK with going one bar over.)
Go to the Bars setting and reset to 8.
The track you are on will keep all data upto the end of the eighth bar. All other tracks will loose the notes at the end of the sequence (seems to be by amount of bars you truncate by minus 1.)

I will play about more but can somebody else see if they can recreate this or at least tell me it is retarded behaviour and not what is meant to be happening.

Yeah starting to wonder if I should of, even if just for the slight savings in size and weight. Think I will appreciate the 4 QLinks I can assign to different parameters/CC values per track once I get more organised though.

You got any music/videos of what you've done on the MPC? Been into your music for time and got a few vinyl and a load of your mixes but would be interested to hear/see how you use the MPC.

"Guaranteed way to work with JJOS"

1. create a folder for every song you work on
2. "save entire memory" into that folder
3. in the future, if you edit anything in the song, replace it in the same folder

yeah man, but most of the jungle/dnb discs were done in Logic. the mpc was used in these tracks just as a supporting layer thing. the bulk of the programming def done in DAW.

how i work now is i make about 90% of my drum tracks in mpc, then i sync up and solo the hits and record out the seperate tracks. after that it's all DAW. second, i use the mpc as my trigger when i play into DAW plugs like superior drummer or ultrbeat, it's waaaay better than a keyboard. lastly, i'll use a program i made of jamaican lickshots n stuff and overdub a kinda 'ad-lib' track of effects using the mpc or my trustly lil boss sp202...

some current examples of heavily mpc-based tunes can be found here, at my new dubby label's myspaz:

www.myspace.com/littleislandrecords

however, once again, mpc is only drums ,percussion and lickshot. the rest is played outta VSTi's...

Fair enough, quality stuff however you do it. Personally I got an MPC and Virus B quite recently to try and get back into things and sort out a live set. Had just got pissed off and not done anything after I bought a BCR2000 controller dead and after hundreds of phone calls and emails I still hadn't managed to get Turnkey to do anything about it. That and the fact my computer is seriously ageing and just doesn't seem to hold its own anymore. Almost spent twice as much on a laptop but thought I'd give this way a try, and buying secondhand I should be able to recuperate most of my money should I feel it's not working for me in a few months.

EVERYBODY is doing dubstep type stuff at the moment! This is closer to the true dub vibe though. Some nice licks as usual coming from you :)

drools.....umm....wanna get rid of it? ;) come to barcelona i'll trade a huge bag a sensi for it !!!

Haha, only got it a couple of months ago and still learning half of it. A lot of the controls are hidden behind the main control panel. I kinda wanted a Supernova2 but this came up on the 'bay for a reasonable price first ;)

But feel free to send me a huge bag of sweet sensimilia for free. It wont go to waste ;)

.... This is almost exactly how I do things ... although I use Cubase and not Logic.
