I've been happy with version 2 for quite some time now, and with the recent updates that include Loop Edit in 16 pad mode... It's all gravy. Thing is, Loop Edit was just added to 2XL. The lack of this function was the main feature that made me stick with regular version 2. I know that there are a few other die hard version 2 users on this forum, and that's who I really want to hear from. (Anyone else is welcome to chime in of course)
Here are a few things that are in Ver. 2 that are not in XL.

1. -In the Trim screen, the loop off, loop on, and loop alternate can be toggled through with the F4 button. In Xl, you can still use Alternate loop, but you have to turn the loop on and move to the arrows and switch to alternate. No big deal, just a pain in the but when editing a large group of samples.
2. -The Pattern editer in XL, found in the loop edit mode under F3 View, does not have the tune or chop option. I never did use the chop option here, but tune is a great feature. I imagine it was probably removed because it can now be done differently with the arpeggiater. (Also no longer found by Mode Pad 11, which I find kind of odd since it just brings you to Program mode.)
3. There is no Extra Play Mode in XL.

Right now this is all I can think of. After working with XL for just a few hours, it does seem just a bit more querky. For example, the screen kind of fades out real quickly at times in Trim mode, but I just think that's from stuffing SO much into this sucker! Any major losses with XL? The list I gave are just a few things that I found altered the way I work. These are just observations, not complaints, by the way. As I said, I was very happy with regular version 2, but if I can adjust my workflow just a bit, I may just end up sticking with XL... Please let me know what else I'm forgetting about. Praise JJ!

1.Its a tiny detail but yes i do miss that .
2.I havent used pattern edit since moving to xl, tune, chop would be nice
3.extra play mode seems pointless to me

I understand why people miss the additive qlinks features of the akai,free,1 and 2 os's
the main thing i miss is actually from os1 , velocity>start, velocity>attack and velocity>pitch, there's workarounds in 2 and xl but these were quick and easy in the other os's.

os2xl needs an "all" function for the pad layers. In GPE "All" only applys to layer 1 , in the other os's you could change the parameters of sub layers as well if you were in the pad layer screen.

the screen kind of fades out real quickly at times in Trim mode

i think thats deliberate- its a way of saying "the sample is playing" !

Any major losses with XL?

1. Q-LIIIIIIINKS !!!
i'll say no more cause i've said enough on this topic. q-links are still gimped bigtime in 2xl. both with automation & using with filters. plus they only work on certain screens in 2xl.

2. Mixer automation
can be useful to automate level & pan. can't do it in 2xl.

os 2 is still more stable. plus os 2xl chokes the processor much easier than os 2 when your sequences get busy. i think there is just a lot more going on under the hood in 2xl and it strains the cpu a bit.

Mikolo mentioned some of the other stuff.

yeah. co-sign on that. that was a major loss. i'd love to see that back in os 2, especially velocity>start.

when working with a daw i still prefer v2:

1) posibillity to turn internal pad sounds off, they only sound when triggered by external midi.
this way you avoid that sounds a played twice when you hit a pad (weird flaging sound)

2) Group Mute works with external midi, so you can trigger your drum tracks from daw.

3) Pad -> Note Assignement is easier

+ More stable + Mixer automation + Q-Links

Sometimes i swich to XL for chopping ( Zero-Cross + Play-Marker ) but not very often :)

Only things i miss in V2 is the Advanced Audio-Track which lets you put more than one sound on the track.

Why is there no option for sending resonance to a q-link on os2xl?? kinda missing this from os1, does os2 have it?
and what is the advantage of assigning Q-links to tracks instead of programs? im confused..........

Also, why make an os that can't handle busy sequences and freezes up more often? Isn't stability more of a concern than pointless features like 'TC Strength %'?? and if all of these have such different feature sets, why aren't they more compatible w/ each other?

i wish os1 just had Non-Destructive Chop and the ability to assign tracks to the 8 outs.......
...and some little things like the Normalize %

omfg say wha?!

You say tomato, I say iterative quantise is da bomb and the most outstanding feature in OS2XL!

I see arpeggiator and chord as pointless features.

(INSTR) programm mode should b improved -
at present there is no (ALL) option in OS2XL
it is a very important function called (WHOLE) in OS1

Also would b nice to b able to have multilayered (INSTR)
programms.

haha.. ok, i was a little harsh on the quantise strength. its not bad at all, but, I feel like some things, like the qlinks, are more important/necessary for music creation.... TC% is just kinda lazy imo. i mean, you don't really need it, and if the os isn't even stable then whats the point?

Also, as i typed this, i was loading up my first XL project folder and one of the programs, a DRUM program with a non-destructively chopped sample, loaded with no samples assigned and no chop #'s assigned. it did still have the name, though, and all the other pgms seem to be fine.
Any idea why this happened?
