here's a little hint on maximizing your drum programs for use in 16 pad grid edit.
i will walk you through it using samples from a chopped-break, but you can use any drum sounds if you chose em well enough.
first: remember these pads. 1, 6, 11, and 16. a difference of five every time. why is this important? because it is a diagonal line from 1 to 16, bottom left to top right.
also, it's because there are usually four predominant drums in a hip hop drumkit: kick, snare, hat, and cym. 1, 6, 11, and 16 respectively.
i like setting them that way, but really, you can do it in many ways. the principle that must be shared no matter how you do it though is that they must "grouped," ie bottom 4 pads are kicks, next 4 are snares, next 4 are hats, next 4 are misc. and cyms.
why group them horizontally rather than vertically? because of grid edit. grid edit lays out the pads from 1-16, top to bottom.

right? the y axis of grid is pad, the x axis is time.
now having set up your drum program the way i just showed you, you have the grid GROUPED conveniently. so rather than having your kicks on like...1, 5, 9 and 13, vertical, you have them on 1-4. this creates a Block of Kicks on the grid. see the diagram below of both scenarios.

this helps maximize the grid and helps you know intuitively which grid space means what. since there is no horizontal marking, it's kind of difficult to be able to look ahead and read the grid - this technique helps because you can group the y axis.
