this is something that i'm really happy i discovered.

i figured this out through reason, looking at the Maelstrom's controls. the maelstrom has 2 different goddamn waves to synthesize - and then a filter and a couple LFOs to effect the 2 waves.

this is EXACTLY what we have in the mpc.

i've mentioned wave simulted layers before, but i'm stressin it again.

simult some sine/square/triangle, etc waves...to layer w/ your kick. apply a realtime tune to this simulted layer and you've got you a really flexible baseline that fits the qlink rather than the chromatic scale...it's sick.

these don't even have to be simulted necessarily.

remember - you have all the power of the maelstrom synthesizer from reason WITHIN YOUR MPC ALREADY. is it necessarily as good? yes and no, for reasons you will see. different mediums promote different techniques.

use this sht, it's really powerful for incredibly potent basslines (and more).

I've been using this sht with waves since realtime was added to 1k, with simult its more flexible, now, and powerfull, yeah. all I need is an extra 200,000 notes like 2500(JJOSV5) users will have.
I know how to workaround with MPC keeping some free space and not having:
>>>INSUFFICIENT MEMORY<<< while recording, but workingaround stops the workflow.
"MY GOOD LORD JJ" give me 300,000 notes feature, please.
not on the top of my wishlist, but I think its not some big deal and I wouldn't mind to have more more more...
peace

You're right Antonym...to a degree.
The Maelstrom uses grain synthesis for the two of it's WAV, so you have a very flexible platform with which to synthesize. The MPC certainly does have a lot of potential, I can't wait to try out some of those bassline techniques.

I dont get how you do that with the qlink, instead of playing notes you play it by the qlink? For me thats a lot harder to make it fit or did i miss sth?
(thinking about it u could use the qlinks instead of flexible envelopes... )
