this is something that i'm really happy i discovered.
i figured this out through reason, looking at the Maelstrom's controls. the maelstrom has 2 different goddamn waves to synthesize - and then a filter and a couple LFOs to effect the 2 waves.
this is EXACTLY what we have in the mpc.
i've mentioned wave simulted layers before, but i'm stressin it again.
simult some sine/square/triangle, etc waves...to layer w/ your kick. apply a realtime tune to this simulted layer and you've got you a really flexible baseline that fits the qlink rather than the chromatic scale...it's sick.
these don't even have to be simulted necessarily.
remember - you have all the power of the maelstrom synthesizer from reason WITHIN YOUR MPC ALREADY. is it necessarily as good? yes and no, for reasons you will see. different mediums promote different techniques.
use this sht, it's really powerful for incredibly potent basslines (and more).
