I realise the OS memory is pretty much full but I had an idea for a new feature.

Most of the time I find it much easier to tap out a drum pattern with multiple pads on one track. Plus, now that we have grid edit, it is much easier to go and add or move things. So I find myself with one track for all of my drums rather than a track for each different sample.

A feature that could split a track into multiple tracks and name each of the new tracks whatever the sample was called would be great.

So say you've got Kick, Hats, Something1, Something2 as your samples in your drum pattern, it would make four new tracks called Kick, Hats, Something1, Something2 that only have that sample in them.

I realise if you only had four samples it wouldn't be that hard to make four copies and delete the other three from each track, but if you've got 15 samples it can/could get time consuming and complicated.

What do you all think? Do you have an easier way to do it than what I just said?

I think that would be a waste, you already have those function "manually" in each mpc, to copy, delete tracks. Why add something like that. Add something that you cannot do manually or any other way. Something new.

the question comes up - why the need to have them on different tracks?

I was wondering the same.

I was guessing you wanted it like that for tracking out your beats... but... you're tracking them out, you have to record the audio into ur DAW anyway.. so its not necessary to have them on seperate tracks in the mpc.. just record them seperactly.

mixer and assignable outs work just the same if not better than different tracks...

If you play live its nice to mute single hits or samples.

I suppose I try not to use the computer. So if everything is on separate tracks you can pretty much put the entire song together on the MPC.

I still don't really get the point of using assignable outs and a mixer. I have asked in another post and not really got any proper replies yet. I sort of understand why people use them but what is wrong with mixing on the MPC?

Can you assign a single sample to one out? I haven't tried but I just figured it would only be a track to an out...?

Theres nothing wrong with mixing in the mpc, but I get a way better mix in protools(waves diamond bundle!!) at least for the recorded version of the song. As far as assigning to seperate outs, think about recording 24 tracks from the mpc to individual tracks in your daw one at a time, or 6 at a time. Id rather take 4 passes than 24! (depending on what you've got going on, but you get my piont)

You can separate drums in various tracks using SEQ EDIT and MOVE selecting the appropriate pads to move.

I don't think we can expect it to happen in an automatic way, at least as far as naming tracks after the sample names, since the sequencer only knows pad numbers and midi notes (although it could name the track after the pad number I guess...).

The yamaha RS7000 has a 'separate drum track' function but it only works well if you use the midi drum map.

Using multiple outs and a mixer is not very useful, unless the mixer has good EQ or FX for example. But as soon as you have an external FX unit, or compressor or whatever, it becomes necessary to have separate outs to actually use the fx unit (unless you want to apply one single effect to your mix).
And yes, you can assign one single pad to the assignable outputs.
