For some reason my manual says those pad functions are in Program Mode; maybe just a typo, i don't know. When in trim mode, my pads all play the same way - will only play the entire sample if you keep the pad depressed, except for pad 12 has no sound. Guess I just have a bug.
But thanks for your help bro, you are so cool.

Akai Manual wrote:When you hit a pad, the MPC500 plays the sample. In PROGRAM mode, the playback method varies depending on the pad.
[PAD 11] (PLAY TO) - Sample is played before the start point.
[PAD 12] (PLAY FROM) - Sample is played from the start point.
[PAD 9] (PLAY ALL) - Plays the whole sample regardless of the start/end point settings.
[PAD 1] to [PAD 8] - Plays from the start point to the end point.
I understand what you meant man, but what that line in the manual means is that when you are in Program mode, the pads playback differently, according to what you have each Pad set to(ie. Note On, Oneshot, etc)
This directly insinuates that the Detailed Explanation above is Specific to TRIM MODE.
So Im not sure why you are having a problem. I suppose a Bug is possible. But not as likely as user error. NO offense.
Record a good sample of audio. Something at least a few seconds long.
Try trimming a small little piece in the middle about 1/8th the total size of the entire sample and hit pad 9. it should still play the entire sample for example.
As for pad 12.. if your Samples End point is all the way at the end, then your NOT gonna hear anything since pad 12 plays from the AFTER the end point man.
RE-READ everything here in your thread and retry this.. Im pretty sure you'll eventually get it.

EDIT: I have to remind myself here that your on a 500 which I have never used so U have the tiny screen..
Im SURE if you follow page 67 word for word, you'll be fine..
Record some audio.. try to get a phrase the has sound at the start and end that you dont want. for instance a drum loop with some kicks and snares and hihats would be good. Then following the instructions on page 67, trim the start time and end time to isolate ONE smaller section of the loop.. or even just ONE kick or snare.. either way
you will notice that when you hit any pad 1-8 it will play ONLY the portion you have selected via the start and end points. pad 9 will play the entire thing and ignore your start and end points. and so on and so forth. refer to manual quote above and READ READ READ the meanings..
