My 500 is 3 years old never been dropped.I`ve tried blowing air inside in case it was a dust issue to no avail.I plan on buying another one and keep the old one for spare parts if I have to do any soldering. Not worth the hassle.

PS My STOP button is rickety as well. How easy is it working under the hood/doning mods???

The mode button is the most important button on the 500 next to the DO IT button which I thought would be the first to falter.

if the deoxit (or any contact cleaner spray for electronics really) dosen't work. (you have to open up the case and spray it directly into the switches.) then you probably have to change the tact switches. luckily just about any competent electronics repair shop can do this. its always best to find a shop that specialises in music equipment but changing tact switches is not rocket science.

use deoxit… it works on all the innards..i haven't had to change any tact or the jog wheel, i have had to open up my mpc and use deoxit probably 4 times now and every time the stuff starts working rite again.. if u were in WA i could solder it for ya, I'm hella good at soldering,. i soldered all new leds in mine and did hella soldering on my 1000..really most electronics geeks can do this for you..try the deoxit though, my jog wheel started acting funny a year ago going through the characters real slow, i used the good ol deoxit and BAM haven't had a problem with it since… what happens is sometimes you might go a lil bit not using ur mp and the contacts oxidize, the times it happened to me was when i didn't use the device for a month or so..ive had my 500 since 2008 and haven't had to change any tacts or the jogwheel

A bit OT but in the same vein. I've just copped a 500 for quite cheap and the seller said this about the jog wheel,

This unit only has one functional problem. The jog wheel has become unresponsive, the encoder needs replacing. though as it stands the encoder will still respond if you take the silver wheel off and pull the encoder shaft upwards while turning it. obviously not ideal live so you will want to replace it with an encoder from MPCstuff.com

Do you think Deoxit could resolve this issue or am i better off just getting a new encoder??

Cheers

it could be that it's broken but try deoxit anyways first.. i would order one based on the fact that you can pull it up. But owning deoxit or something similar is important anyways when you have gear like mpcs.

i would order a new encoder as well, i have a buddy in WA who had that issue with his jogwheel "magicD" is his name. lol.. he messed it up by having it in a packed full backpack with something pressing on the wheel hella hard..u can try the deoxit, but i bet it needs a new encoder.

What's funny is, I have only lusted after the 500 since seeing your custom White job. That shit is so slick. :smoker:
