Bump....

A feature that needs to be enhanced immedicately is the SAMPLE EDITING MENU. Akai/Numark needs to take a look at how JJ implemented Chop Shop as well as what Roland has done.

I was at Guitar Center last night playing with the Fantom G. Sample editing on that keyboard as well as the Fantom X and MV-8800 are amazing. Specifically, I love the Scrolling Cursor that shows you which part of the sample is actually playing. This makes sample editing a breeze. Also, when it comes to chopping/slicing samples...Roland products allow you to ADD/DELETE Sample Slice Points while using this Scrolling Cursor. Every time you add a slice point, it instantly assigns that new slice to a pad.

Additionally, sample zooming in/out could be better implemented. I would like to be able to zoom in/out on a sample without having to enter OPEN WINDOW which pulls up another MENU. Akai/Numark could simply use the 4 cursor buttons or the Step/Bar buttons to allow zooming in/out on a sample. JJ OS nicely implements this feature.

I believe these suggestions would be a significant improvement to the MPC 5000. After using the JJ OS for some time now, I hate using the MPC 5000 for chopping. JJ's Chop Shop is like 4.0 compared to the MPC 5000s Chop Shop 2.0.

That's real talk......

Boele,

I posted #3 regarding the action when going into trim mode already quite a while ago on the tracker.

PM waiting for you...

I know the knobs control parameters for each pad, but can they also control parameters for an entire track? Like on the RS7000. Can you change the pitch, attack, filter, etc for an individual track with the knobs?

Hey SCD,

Thanks for all that you've done to give us clear insight on the 5000 but can you put in a feature request for 24bit data format for samples it's crazy it wasn't even included it would be nice to have the option of both 16 and 24 instead of losing quality and dynamics changing samples from 24bit to 16bit

I have to ask......

Looking at your tool box, you have all the latest MPCs with the exception of the MPC 4000 which is the only MPC that is 24 bit. If a 24 bit MPC is what you are looking for, then an MPC4K appears to be what you need. How did your production survive all this time with MPCs that make you lose quality and dynamics?

First of all I'm an mpc man to my heart and probably will own all of them not that it should matter to you and my production has never suffered due to the fact that none of the other mpc's I own support 24bit good engineering takes care of that but If you read what I wrote you would see I never said the mpc made me lose quality, converting samples from 24bit to 16bit does and takes a lot of time hell the 5000 is the new flagship it should have it anyway, but I have a lot of 24bit industry sounds that are not being able to be used in that format except by computer or mpc via 16bit.

there s no need to convert anything

just import your 24bits samples on the mpc 5000

the mpc will auto convert them to 16bit

also the mpc 5000 export is 24bit

Yes, you can resample it or record it to the multi-track recorder.

Does anyone know how to assign loops to the pads so that when I press the pad the loop will sound until I press the same pad again? Is this possible on the 5k?

Ive got a 4000 and the main thing that I was wondering is how do the filters compare? Im really interested to know about this. The rep from Akai said they blow the 4000 out of the water, but he would, wouldn't he. I dont think the filters on the 4000 are all that great. Would really like to hear back on this one!

The time stretch is quality. Sounds don't get as glitchy as trying to time stretch in a DAW. Sounds also maintain tune well after being time stretched.

Yeah, that's possible. It's as simple as loading a loop onto your MPC, either to the HD, ROM or CF and assigning it to a pad, just like a single sample or one shot. You can use the Tempo/Tap button to find the BPM or you can have the MPC detect the loop's BPM in the 'TRIM' feature. Once you've cut out any silence at the start or end of the loop, you can simply assign it to a pad and play it.

I've been doing this with the drum track from Q-Tips "Vivrant Thang" and it's pretty dope.

I meant that if you pressed a pad, the loop will be latched foreverr. The only way to stop it from playing would be to press the same pad again
