hmm.. didn't know they were already at komplete 8.. never mind "ultimate 8" .. out of laziness, what does that come with?

live 8 is the easyest daw ever, you can do whatever you think in no time... by me synths sucks, even in suite edition... so you'll probably end up buying plug in for that.
the live controllers are awesome, you have total control on software with apc20 40 or launchpad: that's so easy to work on live that sometimes that's not even funny. I hate the interface, it seems i'm actually at work when i play live... that's totally subjective anyway.

komplete seems to be the best stuff out right now, people say the synths are very good, and the sampler is the best. the interface is awesome, but i've never been using that, so i don't know how easy is komplete to work with. reaktor for sure is a nightmare...

i really love reason, but there's no way you open it the first time and you use that as you want. synths are really powerfull, but IMO you need to know how sound works to get dope stuff. A good point is that eventually you'll be able to use whatever software or hardware you'll have in the future, as it emulates how hardware stuff works. moreover that's really funny to use and the interface is really nice. no plug in means or you'll chance daw in the future using reason as a sound module or you'll learn to use reason very very well.

you can do professional records with the three of them, if you are good enough, but to make gig live is the best period.

if i had nothing and i didn't play gig i would buy reason, and i would probably be wrong heheheh

well the NI komplete synths and samplers are great and always worked well in my experience (I think I am still on version 5... ) but I dont use those stand alone really.. or for live use.

I was thinking about setting a laptop up for someone I know with guitar rig as a digital guitar effect unit just for fun...

I'd say Ableton Live as carloboranga said, it's quick to pick up and pretty veratile

But if money's not an issue then i'd get Cubase 6, GBPounds £508.00

Guitar Rig is a lot of fun. Same with Amplitube. I haven't tried the Line 6 amp modelers in Record yet. But I'm gonna give them a try while I have the demo.

Back to mwalker... Yeah bro, tough choice. I have a love/hate relationship with Ableton Live. I haven't been up on Komplete Ultimate 8. But perhaps I should look into it.
As for what I'm doing, I decided to put Ableton Live on hold in favor of Reason 6. I need stability in the software I use. Since 1.0, I've never had Reason crash on me. So I'm more than satisfied with what Propellerheads have done for the integration of Reason/Record, and all it's added features and devices. The only thing I'm not happy about is there's no way to track and sync. But hopefully this will be added in a future update. After that, it's PERFECT as far as I'm concerned.

£508.00??? Damn, that's 791.00 USD.... ****' crazy!!! I remember buying Cubase 3.6 in '98 for $300.00 USD. VST instruments didn't exist then. lol
I don't know if Cubase 6 warrants such a high price tag. But as mwalker said "if money is not an issue..." is something for me to keep in mind before I complain here. Steinberg rubbed me the wrong way when they jumped from Cubase VST 3.7 to 5.0 without any upgrade discount offer. I wasnt about to hand them another $300 after that. They lost my business since then.

The foot controller is really what makes it a lot more user-friendly. Nobody likes banging the neck of their guitars on their computer desks to change or tweak their presets. I've given it some thought as to buy that controller for jamming in the studio and for recording. So it's definitely a MUST in a live situation. I'd definitely experiment with it if I were you.

will do, I dont know much about playing guitar... lol, I have a half a dozen of them but dont play lolol... this idea is something I will look into and talk about with who I am planning on putting this rig together for.

If the decision is between Komplete 8 Ultimate and Reason 6....that's a tough one but I'd say go with Ultimate. Just because you're getting more stuff with that.
