I'd say Ableton Live as carloboranga said, it's quick to pick up and pretty veratile
But if money's not an issue then i'd get Cubase 6, GBPounds £508.00

I have only used guitar rig as an effect in a daw for digital music, this idea I have been thinking about was to use it (or similar style units) for live guitar playing instead of a pedal.. not for myself though... I am just curious how well it performs as I never looked into this. I have to look into it further once I get a glance at what machine the said pluggins would be running on.

I recall when Guitar Rig 3 was released, some of the adverts and interviews showed some guitarists using it for live gigs and they all seemed content with it. The foot controller is really what makes it a lot more user-friendly. Nobody likes banging the neck of their guitars on their computer desks to change or tweak their presets. I've given it some thought as to buy that controller for jamming in the studio and for recording. So it's definitely a MUST in a live situation. I'd definitely experiment with it if I were you.
