thanks for the feedback guys.. on another note, i believe the software is looking and working good (other than 16 levels) on stand alone.. still looking for other things that cant be done without the ren.. no bugs in my book though.. stay inspired everyone..

The new function doesnt even make it that much faster, just one less button push to get to 16 level mode which was already easily and quickly accessible. Once again they take something that is completely fine and unbroken and try to fix it. Who came into the room at Akai and said "We need to upgrade this 16 level button!" they should be fired!!!!!!!!! Get your priorities straight!!!! lmaooo

You guys expect too much. I just got the MPC Ren a few months ago, and I think you guys take for granted how powerful this thing is. Its not meant to be a software-only unit. What makes the Ren 10x better than anything else on the market is its hardware.
Spend more time making beats and less time complaining.

The advantage in using 16 level to play a sound is that currently the MPC Software doesn't have full automation on keygroups so when you sequence your song and go to record your edits to that sound and mixer, sends, pans, etc...it will all record nicely if your using a drum program with 16 level activated.
With keygroups you can perform all you want with the 'write' icon activated but most of it won't record
