Holup holup, can you do 16 level tune on the 2000xl too? I finally pushed the 16 level button this year after having the unit for ten years...Lol. :WTF:

"can you do 16 level tune on the 2000xl too?"

Yes. Just one of the many things to love on the great 2000XL although this is a feature on any hardware mpc.
I couldn't imagine living ten years without pushing it ( no homo ) as I think I used the feature everytime I ever used any hardware mpc.
Anyway a whole new chapter of creativity has just opened up to you. Enjoy it.

In the meantime, as a workaround, you can create a program, set the polyphony to mono, load the same sample on all 16 pads and tune each consecutive pad a semitone up/down, adjust volume or velocity depending on what you are trying to do. Not exactly as quick and intuitive as 16 levels but at least you can get the same result.

InspectahEX wrote:This new 16 level feature (new?) is the most sorry sad excuse for a NEW feature I have ever seen. Sorry but its true. The new function doesnt even make it that much faster, just one less button push to get to 16 level mode which was already easily and quickly accessible. Once again they take something that is completely fine and unbroken and try to fix it. Who came into the room at Akai and said "We need to upgrade this 16 level button!" they should be fired!!!!!!!!! Get your priorities straight!!!! lmaooo

Nope, it's been around since the very first MPC. And its actually somehting I've used on pretty much every beat. Weather its to manually create echo effects, or for volume variation on kicks and hats.

Just Blaze used to use it heavily on his sample chops on a lot of beats.

You guys expect too much. I just got the MPC Ren a few months ago, and I think you guys take for granted how powerful this thing is. Its not meant to be a software-only unit. What makes the Ren 10x better than anything else on the market is its hardware.

Spend more time making beats and less time complaining.

The advantage in using 16 level to play a sound is that currently the MPC Software doesn't have full automation on keygroups so when you sequence your song and go to record your edits to that sound and mixer, sends, pans, etc...it will all record nicely if your using a drum program with 16 level activated.

With keygroups you can perform all you want with the 'write' icon activated but most of it won't record :(

It's all about speed, you can hit one button and have access to 16 levels of velocity, people used to use that to create a pseudo delay effect back in the day. You can choose 16 levels of tune and have 16 different notes for just that one sound, select a different pad and have 16 different notes for that sound, to do that with keygroups you would need to first create a keygroup for each sound. Basically it's quicker in alot of cases to use 16 levels.

This is very good information. Thanks.
