In most cases it will depend on the DAW as most plugins are slaves with the DAW as Master even Reason and Ableton operates this way in Logic at least. I have yet to see a plugin as master and a DAW as slave, anyone?

On the other hand DAW started as only midi sequncers at first to work with hardware instruments and multitrack recorders back day they allowed the sync by mtc and midi
clock. Since we are now working with audio/midi sequencers and software instruments
contain both midi input and audio output within the same track guess what the DAW remains the master.

Drag n Drop is faster for me then going into another window, exporting.. that's just a speed/workflow feature, that maschine, also say motu bpm do very well.

As far a 2.0 Maschine product, this is probably my own gut here, but after 3years,I'd say they are close to a release.

Transport control in a DAW is a major deal breaker for me,again,if I wanted the same limitations as Maschine I'd just stay there.. For the $ they are asking for the REN I would really hope this is all possible.

Just a quick reference : Motu BPM can respond to midi messages from an Akai MPD,so if Akai can code controllers to send messages from it's cheap midi controllers to plugins, I would hope they could figure a way that their REN controller could do the same thing to it's own proprietary plugin. Acting as a midi controller when sending cc's to daws, and as a working plugin.

I'm just curious to make sure I understand. You used mpd's transport and midi control to control motu bpm a drum sequencer in standalone mode which is normal. Can you use the mpd's transport to control motu bpm itself within a Daw or the daw itself?

Maschine doesn't have tracks and there is not mixer and MIDI sequencing capabilities are limited.....so I can understand why you would want to drag-n-drop audio from Maschine to a DAW.

The MPC Ren is a full featured MIDI sequencer. It has mixing and automation capabilties and there are so many options for adding effects. What would be the purpose of dragging audio tracks (one at a time) from this MPC DAW to another DAW?

What you don't understand is that producers are comfortable with their DAWs now. That is their space, while the MPC/Maschine is the tool. When you're an audio engineer you have to really be able to mix and create the atmosphere of every beat and every frequency. Sure you can use plugins but the MPC Renaissance is nowhere near as intricate and efficient as a DAW taken a decade to be what it is now. The level of control and creation that can be done is past an MPC's hardware.

I use everything from vintage 670's to the newest VST/AU plugins and the future is the integration of all great systems, and being able to be easily compatible with everything that it should be used in, not being a standalone software. No real producer in this day and age is going to drop Logic Pro or Ableton to sequence/track/engineer all on the **** MPC Renaissance. It's just not practical and is too limited as far as real studio use.

No offense, but the Mpc ren imo is not a daw, there will be obvious limitations comparing it to my daw.Again, I'm not into the standalone thing,as soon as I get it here, it would immediately go into my daw as a plugin, if I purchased it.

The purpose would be I'd rather use a linear fashion of programming/sequencing my tracks n song. Plus it's mixer won't compare to the ease n use of my daw. So I can see why dnd is important.

That pretty much sums it up, some people work different, to me the mpc can sequence perform some mixes, and control things, but when I want true control over the song, it's all daw,we go right from creating the sound, into songs and vocals here.

I hated rewire apps n such as well,I think it's pointless to work in two different environments.. but thats just me, we all work differently. I hope Akai understands this, and doesn't make the users like myself and others bend to limitations like NI did with the lack of transport controls in a daw.

The MPC Ren isn't a DAW? From what Akai has shown so far, it is doing a great job of looking like a DAW to me. The only thing I see holding it back is the lack of audio tracks. If audio tracks are added, I see less reasons to use another DAW as everything could be done onboard the MPC Ren/Studio.

I see "less" of a need not "no" need....I still see people taking their projects to their favorite DAW for final mixes...

But really, if you can track audio, MIDI, and VSTs inside of the MPC Ren, what other benefits do you gain in taking them over to a DAW?

You can use the Akai Mpd I have the 32, to control the plugin itself. It was the 1.5 bpm release that offered this. So not only can the midi controller send messages to the daw, it also can send them to the plugin, within the daw.

Hi,

Right without audio tracks, we're missing a key part of the song, to me.. I'm not specifically interested in just making beats or whatever, but true songs. And I'm def not just looking for a standalone product that I can import stems to, I already have that and more in Maschine or a 5k .. No offense , but my points are valid, I feel the plugin should be just as much as priority to Akai, and not a second thought.. Do you understand?

We can agree to disagree too ;) I'm solid on my workflow, and won't go backwards, but yet wait on the right product to invest my $ in. Here's hoping Akai, see's the relevancy in such.

There are plenty more benefits, such as EDITING , that comes with alot of different flavor's in a DAW. I mean we could go on forever just speaking about little intricacy's each DAW does better then the other. To throw a Mpc REN in the DAW dept, is a bit immature at this point and I definitely wouldn't expect it to be as powerful as Logic,PT,Nuendo.. It's just not as functional for the total experience for me and many others.. YMMV

As I mentioned above with the past release of Motu BPM v 1.5, Oliver n co. found a way for a plugin in to accept cc/midi messages, with Bpm 1.5 you can just have BPM playing without the DAW playing. you get options to sync, autoplay etc, very flexible plugin.

Transport control is possible with midi messages in a plugin, I just hope Akai can figure this out, as they are def good at Mtc and midi clock with their hardware.

cheers,time for a beer n then to chop :D

Premature? Perhaps.....but I am not asking to go on forever about every single features DAW have. 2-3 specific features are enough to discuss. What features does it need to include so you can have the "total experience"?

Editing isn't a good example as the MPC Ren has sample, MIDI, and automation editing.
