Yes I did, but I don't think it will be very high on their priority list unless we make some noise about it.

I want to start working on some keygroup patchbanks that I would be sharing here but I don't want to do that until the filters are fixed so they are actually playable.

Well thanks for taking a look. I feel like this is a very serious problem and while I can use VST instruments (which have controller smoothing built in) the sampler is a pretty major part of the instrument and to have such a main feature broken like this is just crazy.

Make sure to +1 it on the official site (link is in the first post).

labcoats wrote:I also hear stepping when mousing. It seems a universal thing in the Ren. For example delay parameters increase by divisions of 20ms. I've been informed that's totally sufficient. Of course its not.

Airyck wrote:I know exactly what it is. The QLINK's have 128 discreet steps. The filter range is probably about 20hz to 20khz. If you divide that range by 128 you get something like 156hz steps. So each position in the knob causes the filter to jump 156hz skipping over all of the frequencies in that range. For example if you had the filter cutoff set at 100hz and you move one step up with the QLINK it would cause the filter to jump to 256hz skipping all the frequencies between 100hz and 256hz.

What normally is done is called controller smoothing. When the knob says hey jump up 156hz from here the smoothing causes the filter to smoothly travel through all 156hz of that step up to the next position. So it sounds smooth and doesn't move in jumps or steps (hence stepping)
.

:hmmm: :popcorn: this is not only interesting, much more!!! :mrgreen:

@labcoats : 20ms steps is unacceptable "."

The last digital commercial item to have filter stepping that I know of was the Roland SH-32 which was released in 2001 as a budget synthesizer.

I guess the Ren falls into the "budget item" category? :hmmm:

The filters are designed well in and of themselves because using LFO or envelopes you get nice smooth movements with no stepping. It's the way they respond to controls like the QLinks and automation that is the problem.

More signs of skipped steps (pun intended) in the rush to release this piece of music equipment.

I can't wait for this thing to mature it's going to be awesome, I'm just tired of waiting.

This was submitted to Akai the moment it was first posted.

I think you will be happy with the next update.
