Well, it's good to let Access know that there are Akai users out there for sure, as they know it will be a platform that they have to pay attention to. In addition to making excellent synths, they have an outstanding track record of product updates and expanding the scope of what their products can do.

However... Akai also needs to start the ball rolling by sending a Ren unit over to Germany to let the Access devs use it (these kind of things happened all the time when I worked for a software company that worked with various proprietary hardware platforms) - maybe they have already, who knows. Maschine has weak Virus integration as well (it doesn't even support more than one MIDI channel on the VC, unlike the Ren), so it would be a leg up on NI.

But the reality is that both parties need to be involved in order for an issue like this to get real traction, and the users of both products need to do their part to get attention, as I would image that Ren + TI users are not a sizable part of the marketplace. Would I rather it just worked? Of course. Is it totally unreasonable to expect products that claim to adhere to a VST standard should work together? Not really. But... these are both complicated pieces of equipment with their own dedicated audio drivers, so it doesn't surprise me how sloppy the integration is... and to get it fixed, I know how the game is played... so we shall see what happens.

I will send e-mails to both companies support. Any interested Virus-Ren users... well, I'd hope you do the same!

Regards,

JTR

All,

For what it's worth, I have the Virus Control plug-in (64bit) working GREAT in 1.4 - no pops, clicks, or hang ups and the latency is far imporved... and with "LIVE" engaged on the Virus VC plug in latency is non-issue. I have only had an hour or so of working it (I am usually a MIDI only person), but so far I have had none of the issues I had under 1.3 / 32 bit. Very very encouraging for the Virus TI + Ren users out there.

I would love to know the set up details of any MPC Ren / Virus TI users who are willing to share. I have had a few issues getting the TI side of things to load and am forced to revert back to Cubase or PT's to load total control for patched editing and such and at the moment Im downgrading from 0S 10.9.1 to 10.6.3 being at the moment the Ren has a few issues with the new Mac OS. In any case if anyone has gotten the Virus to talk nice to the Ren Please share details I would really like to get these two working flawlessly together that being the Total Control TI aspect of the Virus in the MPC's DAW as a VST, and AKAI and Access Please give us a driver! PLEASE!

I'm on 1.6, (eventually 1.7 whenever they decide to update it). Jive thanks for this. LIVE mode definitely fixed my latency issue, which had made using the virus pointless outside of standalone mode.

Definitely a HUGE plus so thank you for the advice. There are some major benefits using the plugin.

Peace.

Jive Talking Robot wrote:I run all six Virus balanced outs + the Virus SPDIF in to the 1818, and then SPDIF out of the 1818 in to the Ren so I can get nice clean loops/samples (I even run the Ren virtual outs through the 1818 Fat Channel to punch it up and then back in to the Ren to resample). Works great, sounds great.

The VC issues aside, the Virus is one amazing synth.

Niiiice.
