lets see what ni has up they sleve for 2.0 cos there is alot of promise ive been using maschine for about a year and a half and its been fun, i like that its unobtrusive so u can just focus on sound and music rather then the technicalities.

Jahrome,
eBays first (previously biggest) MPC re-seller….who sold the first MPC 4000s and 2500s in the US.

*(Just in case somebody think , he needs to educate me on MPCs---I'm good)

That doesn't make you an expert though. Selling MPC's is not the same as using MPC's.

This is highly inaccurate! Where'd you get that one from? All you have to do is make a kit on the pads and save the group in the same folder as the source samples/files folder and send the whole folder to your homie.

If there are way too many other samples in that source folder that aren't in the kit, alternatively, you can build the kit on the pads, use the save projects and samples feature to save everything into a new folder, then send your homie that folder. Then all he has to do is open the project and save the kit group in his group folders. Then he can use kit in any project! 8)

And I can admit when I am not accurate. I didn't explain it right and you did post the correct work around.

The annoying part I am talking about is that Maschine lets you build kits by Saving Groups. Right Click + Save As lets you save these cute little .mrgp files. Only catch is that they do not contain any sample data. Just references to the location of the samples, that you better not move. NI acknowledges this concern and is suppose to be working on a wrapper of some sort to put everything in a single file. Until then, we have to use the work-around you posted above.

Sorry for the confusion.

MPCs offer a faster solution. Save a Program option saves your program and samples in the same folder. Done.

2. Maschine uses up to several pages to map out banks of samples; whereas, mpc has dedicated buttons for several banks of samples per programs.

3. You others can add.....

1. I found it easy to adapt to the scenes/patterns method. Although it wasn't something I was able to figure out without reading about how to use. It's really a simple concept once you grasp it and let go of the MPC way for a sec.

2. This is the one feature that pissed me off about Maschine at first. It's a lot easier to switch to new pad banks on an MPC than it is to scroll pages of sounds on the Maschine. I give the advantage of this one to the MPC. However, this does allow you to have more than 64 sounds active in a program on Maschine, unlike an MPC where you can only have a maximum of 64 samples in a program actually assigned to pads.

Also, the MPC having the upper hand, in terms of ease of switching sample banks, totally goes out the window when a keyboard is paired with the two. With a keyboard, where you no longer have to switch banks to access all your sounds, the MPC is still limited to only 64 sounds at a time. However, with the Maschine, you can fill the whole damn keyboard up if you have enough sounds. I think the maximum is something like 108 samples. So it kinda goes both ways.

3. I don't like the way Maschine saves the kits I make. For example, I have all my drums breaks organized in a samples folder on my audio drive, which I can access through Maschine, even over my network. Cool! However, once I start truncating and chopping one of the breaks, Maschine saves the truncated pieces in the source folder of my breaks. So when I go to my breaks folder, I have a bunch of extra chunks of the original break in the folder now.

So to avoid this, I have to copy the whole break to "chopped breaks" folder I made, and then chop it. Not that big of a deal, but the fact that the MPC loads sounds into RAM means that this step is automatically done when you save it to your desired folder. The disadvantage of the MPC in this aspect is limited sample space. Not that big of a deal on Maschine, but it's just another thing you have to get used to!

I see. So you want to wait for the rumored OS 2 that adds all the features Maschine users have been complaining about for a few years. I won't say what they are because you know it and a quick browse to the NI site and you can find this info rather quickly.

If MPC Ren is based off of the MPC 4000 or MPC 5000, Akai doesn't have to add any new features to surpass Mashine 1.7 and I will gamble to say 2.0 as well.

I just hope Ren can do most of the major functions without stopping the sequencer. You know how I feel about that!

Without a doubt. It should act like the 5000. But the 5000 sequencer stops in song mode and hard disk mode. I don't see a benefit in having the sequencer playing when your first enter song mode because you are linking sequences together. The hard disk mode, if implemented would just be audio tracks in the sequencer and treated no different than MIDI, VST, and Drum drums.

I don't really think Akai can compete with Native Instruments in the software world. It's not even a fair fight. If MPC Ren posed my kind of threat to them all they would have to do is something like throw in the Waves Gold Bundle in free with the Maschine and discounted price for the Platinum bundle for the Maschine.

I haven't bought The Maschine because I'm happy using the MPC 1k with Logic, when I make software beats.. they work well together.

But if I had to pick between The Ren and Maschine...it'll be the Maschine at this point.

You haven't bought Maschine because your MPC 1K OS is more powerful sequencer and much better sampler. Period. I think many people here don't grasp the idea of having MPC 1Ks OS installed on a PC.

Nah because of JJ OS. JJ makes the MP 1k an awesome midi controller for Logic.

Also I could store my unused loops and drum breaks as apple loops by dragging from the 1K volume into Logic.

Akai's niche is hardware. The 5000 would have been more successful had they made to work with software DAWs rather that compete with them.

JJ gets it.

Gold Bundle free? First, the Waves Gold bundle is like $700-800 when no on sale. Second, what affiliation does NI have with Waves? I would think they would bundle something from their on Kontakt line before bundling some third party stuff!

The Gold Bundle gets more economical every year and it's no where near a rack.

I was thinking about something else, but the point is they could throw in a gang of quality bundled software.

LOL...The mpc1000 is not more powerful than Maschine. Not even close!
