Not that happy with the name of the Ren. As they already used quite a lot of the design elements of the 3K why not call it MPC 3500 oder something like that.

Cheers

MPC Renaissance is too much of a mouthful, and MPC Ren sounds like the dude from NWA.

MPC Studio sounds like it'd be the centrepiece version but it's the one that's portable.

MPC Fly sounds too much like McFly who were a crap boyband from England!

MPC 1, 2 and 3 might have been better.

mcfly reminded me of back to the future and mpc fly reminds me of that character.

i think the other names are kinda dumb too.

the studio should have been the flagship name imo.

Since none of them can supposedly run without a computer attached to it, I wouldn't call any of them a MPC. Some of the reason legacy MPC's are what they are is due to the bit compression and A/D converters used in the specific models

amen.
they had the chance to start a new line and have a true renaissance, but they're trying to get the cred of the mpc.

when 'midi' changed to 'music' in mpc, i was like, ok, that makes sense.
now that 'center' is changed to 'controller' - that's an entirely different device and i think it's kind of shady to do it like, behind our backs. it still says mpc and people assume it's an mpc, until you read the fine print (not that fine) and see that its a controller, not a sampler. the fact that people on youtube are STILL debating whether it's standalone or not is testament to how damaging this kind of marketing is.

to answer the original thread - i would have called them the same names but drop the mpc and switch up a bit.

akai studio - big one
akai renaissance - portable
akai fly - ipad

I agree MPC Renaissance is a lot of name. & MPC Studio seems like it should be for the biggest one with all the IO. I would've voted for sticking to the number naming convention. Especially with the C now stands for controller you can still call it MPC and a different number than you've used before. but then again if they'd named any of them with the numbers we wouldve all compared them to the classics and then bashed them.

Renaissance has to be one of the worst names for a piece of gear I have ever heard next to Beat Thang.

MPC Renaissance = MPC StudioXL
MPC Studio = MPC Studio
MPC Fly = iMPC Studio
