Sample Editing is an essential part of samplers in my opinion. But I have yet to purchase a sampler that does everything I like. So these are the sample editing features I would like to see in the MPC Ren:

1. Waveform Editing. The Fantom G has two waveform views. The top, smaller view displays a static overview of the entire sample; it will invert the color of the region set by the sample start/end points. The lower, larger view is used to zoom in/out. When zoomed all the way in, it will display the waveform of the entire sample. When zoomed out, it will show a small, specific region of a sample based upon whether you are editing the sample start/end point. A playhead marker is a must have for me.

2. Sample processing. All the standard processing functions should be included such as Discard, Extract, Delete, Silence, Normalize, Reverse, Fade In/Out, etc. But I would also like to see Time stretching, Pitch shifting, Crossfade looping, Resampling w/effects, Bit/Sample rate convert, Chopping/Slicing, BPM detect, etc.

3. Program mode. I would like to see some sort of program mode within Sample Editing. In Program Mode, you can assign/edit sounds on the pads. So if I strike Pad1, the sample assigned to that pad will be displayed in the waveform view ready for editing. Strike Pad2 and the sample assigned to that pad will be ready for editing. Let not forget the same level of function for key group programs.

4. Chopping/Slicing. The first MPC with slicing was the 2000XL if memory serves me correctly. Chopping Recycle styled and Equal Regions are obviously must haves. Slices should auto map and audition from the pads or external MIDI controller. A Scissors tool would be nice for quick manually slicing of a sample. It would really be sweet if I could slice a sample with the Scissors tool and drag-n-drop this sample to a pad. While legacy MPCs and other popular samplers limit the number of regions you can slice a sample into, the Ren should not be limited in this regard. Generating a MIDI sequence to playback these slices has already been confirmed in the Ren.

5. Loop. Forward, Reverse, Xfade, and alternating looping would be a nice touch. Also, I would add the ability to have up to 4 different loop points within a sample.

6. Zoom. Zooming In/Out of sample or sliced regions is a must have feature.

7. Time stretching/Pitch Shifting. Realtime processing should finally be within the reach of an MPC. I am talking beyond the JJ OS or MV. I am talking adding Warp markers DAW style and having samples auto time stretch to fit a sequence.

8. Grid. I would like to see a sort of sequencer grid over layed over the sample. Time signature, Bars, and Tempo should be adjustable params. This would give you a visualization of how a audio phrase would fit within a sequence.

9. Undo/redo. Add these functions to reverse destructive sample editing modifications you've made.

10. Streaming samples from hard disk.

More pointless spam.

Why don't you just add this shit to your feature request thread?? ???

:)

He might need to rephrase this post. Especially since his explanation is gone.

You haven't seen the huge pic of the Ren on Akai's website with the UNDO button?

So why was this listed as a feature request? " So these are the sample editing features I would like to see in the MPC Ren:"

I'm more than happy to answer.

Typically, when a product isn't released yet, a company may yet still post on its website specifications. Often times, the specifications may change without notice. The Ren's advertised specifications have changed at least twice. Also unadvertised functions such as waveform editing, pad copy, note repeat, etc have also been changed.

So I am inclined to write my all inclusive list of functions I would like to see implemented in the Ren.

CTFU at two threads with like 30 features revolving around just getting the signal into the MPC and chopping the waveform. All this corrective shit and coloring of a sample before you even have a mix. We're not even talking about sampling and creating instruments. These features are about sampling and slicing loops. While some of these features may be useful. Does it really need two threads?

What's up with things like the filters, the single cycle looping, modulation
matrix. Stuff that real beat makers care about. Also Rewire so audio can be bussed into Pro Tools instead of imported.
