Even though I prefer Logic Pro, the REN integrates MIDI better with Pro Tools (for now) and since I get free PT upgrades for the next 4 years thru school, I figure I might as well upgrade. Hate Onnn Beeotches (Lol)! :smoker:

Do you already own Logic ? If so, and if you prefer working on Logic, go on with it. You'll work better and faster. If your decision is related to updates, considers the race to update is sometimes futile. Pro Tools in its current state allows to do absolutely anything you want, the same for Logic. As you say "for now" for midi integration, it will be better soon i'm sure.
In addition, a big update of Logic is on the stove, that have been confirmed by Apple. However, i admit that a Logic update will need to be considered by Akai for a Ren adaptive update too, to make all that mess working together !... :hmmm: All that never ends.
This is not advice, just thinking that I made for myself ! :smoker:

For sure man. I've been a logic "user" for years and really love it but school teaches us how to seriously use both Logic AND PT for music production, so I figure what the hell, have the best of both worlds right?. As far as Logic Pro X is concerned, don't hold your breath. It's been "coming" for 2 years now. Even if Apple plans a release to coincide with the new MAC Pro, at the very earliest, we're talking September/ October of this year. Next week, I finish up my final project in Logic for school. Starting July 1, it's nothing but PT everyday for the next month. WTF, might as well become "am-beat-dextrous" :smoker: 8) :smoker:

Yes. Me too.

Yes ? I did not know that. It seems a realistic school software selection. I think the real difficult question now for these students, in our times - if their project is to be music composers - is to share time between all these softwares learning curves, WITH composition, music working, time for creativity, try and error their secret dream of music, and keep time to take inspiration from other forms of art. If possible, they must reserve a decrease part for updating technologies - except if they're involved in particular avant-garde techno-focused and multi-media project - to preserve a growing part for composing music, going to concerts, reading books, seeing images, museums, etc... all things they can assimilate to enrich their musical projects, because they will enrich their LIFE. I think that these students must be really well organized, determinate, ingenious and imaginative. Very wide opened. In one word : cleaver. Or have a rock-solid obsession, more powerful than all the circumstances. :smoker:

The Ren, from my limited experience, works much better with Pro Tools especially when it comes to routing MIDI. I do own the current version of Logic as well as Pro Tools 10. I am upgrading to Pro Tools 11 immediately! 64 Bit Pro Tools, 64 Bit MPC software, and 64 bit UAD plugins....now all I need is the new Mac Pro!

'Bout to start this $299 download (guess I won't be buying the new Jordan Son of Mars being released in a few hours. ).

How do we get an update from PT Express 10 to 11 ?
As far as I recall it is supposed to be free?

Regarding Sequences, av you guys tried Studio One ? The Zoom is so much more smooth than Protools and Logic together and creating Music Loops is so great to archive things.

Music Loops can contain the Whole channel inclusive Effects and the Instrument and MIDI Events !

You download the update from the Avid website. As far as free, I really can't say as my updates are free through Full Sail.

Thanks for the tip Ansolas but with everything I've got going on right now with work, accelerated school curriculum, crazy ass family AND the REN, man, if I had to learn another DAW right now, my head would disintegrate!

Before others end up like beached whales. Be advised, there are no 64-bit AAX versions of UAD-2 plug-ins currently. I have no idea why someone would even make such a reference unless they are simply ill-informed or speaking in future-tense, which is misleading. UA and many other developers are still working on their respective releases—many of which with no definite release schedule. They will come sooner or later. However, anyone moving to Pro Tools 11 right now should actually do the research to make sure that their plug-ins are compatible and have actually been released, in addition to making sure that they are aware of the license related iLok issues plaguing many other Pro Tools users. You will still likely have to use your current version of Pro Tools to get any real work done in the interim. That is, unless you just want to "collect" stuff.

I'm not trying to deter others from getting Pro Tools 11, as is obvious by my related posts elsewhere, but more just washing the area to disinfect it from the usual sources of misinformation that have caused a bit of disappointment for some in the past.

As a student, the OP has no excuse not to grab a copy of 11! Enjoy. The update is long overdue. :)

Undertow wrote:For anyone who actually uses Pro Tools, the obvious just became even more obvious. The more I just sit back and let you type the more you discredit yourself. :WTF:

If I were trying to defeat enthusiasms, I doubt that I would have been the first to post about the Pro Tools 11 announcement here nor likely among the first to post about it's release. But I digress, there isn't a single post where you can quote me saying anything negative about PT11, or even anything that isn't factual. I clarified overzealous misinformation. Maybe you should try actually being honest with your peers and saving them from inevitable headaches sometime, instead of posturing and trying to impress a forum full of males. What an odd, fella. smh

I use Pro Tools 10 and my Apollo everyday, and your post talking about the 64 bit plugs was much appreciated by me. I rely on those and PT 11 would be pretty useless until UA releases the 64 bit models. Thanks
By Undertow Sun Jun 23, 2013 2:39 am
No problem, sirparksalot. UA has at least said that they are working on them and that a release is tentative. They aren't alone though. Softube, Waves, Slate, Celemony, Soundtoys and many other developers who's products a lot of us depend on everyday haven't released their 64-bit AAX plug-ins yet either. While Pro Tools 11 brings a wealth of welcomed features it would be hard to imagine anyone who seriously uses Pro Tools and/or plug-ins adopting it in a real workflow right now due to incompatibilities, so I'm with you on that. This is expected to change in the near future but until then workarounds are pretty much hyperbolic and are convoluted—maybe good for testing but not practical for real user workflows.

Hopefully, by the time most of the 64-bit plug-ins are being released the issues with Pace/iLok will have subsided also—things are apparently getting sorted, albeit slowly. If you end up having any iLok issues, here are good references to keep track with what's happening and how others are finding solutions: via DUC and Gearslutz. Thanks to RepRSP for the second link.

http://www.uaudio.com/support/uad/versions.html wrote:Version 6.4.1 - January 3, 2013

About This Release
UAD v6.4.1 for Mac OS X is a public beta release intended primarily for Apple Logic Pro 9 64-bit users. Although 32-bit and 64-bit versions of VST and Audio Units plug-ins are included, they are not fully tested with other hosts.
Users of 32-bit hosts such as Avid Pro Tools and Ableton Live 8 should not install UAD v6.4.1. Instead, UAD v6.3.2 is recommended. Full support for 32-bit and 64-bit hosts will be included in a future release.
This release supports all UAD-2 devices (UAD-2 PCIe cards, UAD-2 Satellite, and Apollo audio interface).

New Features
Mac OS X 64-bit UAD Powered Plug-Ins (VST and Audio Units)

Currently running what will be Software 1.4 of the Ren with 64 Bit UAD plugins. 64 Bit plugins that all UAD users know have been available since right before NAMM in Jan 2013.

As you can see below...here is the 64 Bit MPC software, 64 Bit Arturia Mini V plugin, and 64 Bit UAD plugin running on my Apollo.

Note that Undertow hasn't chimed in to let you know you are absolutely wrong.

And as I wrote early (a fact most Pro Tool users are aware of)....only AAX plugins will run in Pro Tools 11. So I will use my Ren in all its 64 bit glory with the 64 Bit UAD effects. Then export my tracks as audio files to import into Pro Tools 11 (once I download it. I decided to get those new Jordan Son of Mars after all. )

Stop making a fool of yourself, buddy. It's getting silly. There is really no need to go to such lengths to protect your fickle internet facade. Most here already know your ilk. Every time you post in desperation like this your frailty becomes apparent and your flailing sinks you further like some kind of incoherent and panicked livestock. It's embarrassing to even watch. If you haven't learned already, you can't really "save face" with spin.

In response to DJ Hellfire, JAH wrote:PT 11 projected to be 64 bit? Great. Because so is the Ren.

As of right now, I have no choice but to use 32 bit as Pro Tool 10, MPC Ren/Studio, and my Apollo/UAD effects are all only 32 bits. And I have no desire to switch to any other apps for any reason.

In response to the misinformation, Undertow wrote:I usually don't even read this section but came across this in new posts. I dislike inaccurate information spouted as truths to try to validate opinions, so I feel compelled. This is inaccurate. UA has already released it's plug-ins in 64-bit format for Windows. OS X versions of their 64-bit plug-ins are also freely available—right now—in public beta and slated to be finalized in the coming months.

Like DJ Hellfire said, Pro Tools 11 will also be a 64-bit DAW and is expected to be released soon. However, we're talking about a product with lots of legacy code not a brand new one. The other major DAWs that aren't 64-bit are also already available in public beta as 64-bit and will be released in the coming month or two as final builds—for example, Live 9.

Opinions are cool but resorting to "spin" to sell a product is getting old. :?

Both quotes cited from this thread, from way back in January of this year.

Obviously, I knew that there were 64-bit UAD-2 plug-ins a long time ago—in AU and VST. Meanwhile, you were spouting misinformation even then. However, what there are not are any 64-bit AAX plug-ins, currently. Which is what we were addressing and no number of smilies after witless retorts and screenshots can undo what we discussed and inevitable outcome.

…and Undertow hadn't "chimed in" because Undertow actually has a life…most of which doesn't involve defending companies from the forces of the universe. Nice cape by the way.

I am really curious,
how do you guys use the MPC as Plugin in a DAW?

How is you workflow? Do you manage to run a Sequencer in a sequencer?!

@Jah: How do you deal with UAD Plugin Latency in the MPC Software ?
As far as I know does the MPC NOT have Plugin Latency compensation?

Undertow wrote:There is really no need to go to such lengths...

No great lengths taken. It just took a few minutes to post screen shots of 3x 64 Bit apps I am currently using as I type this (MPC software, UAD Plugins, Mini V). Nothing more, nothing less.
