When you convert a song, the specific settings used in each track within the sequence, such as track type, MIDI channel setting, selection of the program, etc, will be set to the values that you set in the sequence in the first step of the song.

If the track setting of the sequence in another step is different from those in the first song step, the song may not be converted properly. To avoid this, it is better to make the track settings and the order of each sequence the same.

The above entry was posted 11 months ago. If I remember rightly, there were some problems reported soon after. Does 1.4 perform FLAWLESSLY concerning that function? TIA.

I'm quite sure it functions as described above. This nonsense is one reason I wish we would get universal mixer. I mean whats the reason of having own mixer for each sequence, when it all gets f'd up when bulding a song from them.

EDIT: But basically this is not an any sort of a problem for me as I use same track settings for each sequence. Not that I've had any problems with this functionality yet atleast...

This is how Song Mode and converting Songs to sequences work. All MPCs peform the same way. As of 1.4, there are no reported bugs with this function.

A song IS one big sequence. When you convert a sequence to a song you are just creating a larger sequence out of other smaller sequences. On most mpcs I've used you have to keep your settings the same on the tracks or they will default to whatever I guess is on the sequence 1 settings. I suggest you do what you do, and on each sequence, try to keep the volumes and everything similar, then after you create the song just fine tune it by going into maybe the Program mixer and mixing in there with your final converted song/sequence.

You'll enjoy the learning curve and all the features it has.....If you're new to the MPC way, keep going back to the manual or get the Sampling Laid Bare tutorial to help you along.....If you're like me, I press buttons first, f*ck things up then read the instructions!

I just dont get how you(not you specifically) would expect to even have it work as it is really messy anyway if it did have that function.

It's kinda like mixing live ... You try to keep all mixing channels the same for each band..

For the first band have 1-8 be the drums then 9 10 and 11 are the bass guitar and voks.. The rest of the bands basically have the same setup.. You wouln't then repatch those instruments to different channels each time as it would confuse the **** outta you creating more workload....

I like how the mpc is as it forces you to have nice house keeping manner....

This concept is good in terms of learning how to use a analog mixer before you use a daw.. Because you are forced to understand the idea of sends , busses and signal of flow..

So have I. I posted up my Roland Fantom Friday and just a moment ago, my MPC5K on ebay. A new Ren and New laptop are in my near future... Yes the 5k is going. No I have no choice but to scoop the Ren or Studio over 90% likelihood it's Ren

Oof! What a mighty blow to the gut.

You'll regret those losses. I would've tried the Ren before selling those pieces. I saw too many members kicking themselves for selling their old gear for the Ren.

I haven't used my Fantom in ages and will make the most of the Ren. I will have no choice. It's one of those things that you have difficulty just trying out. I'm optimistic it will be fine for my workflow

I doubt you will miss the 5K when you learn your away around the Ren and MPC Software.

The Fantom (or any keyboard workstation) would have been a good companion for the MPC Ren.

PFF!!
Maybe im misunderdraning you. The Rens mixer is the direct opposite of an analog console, or any console ever made in the history of the universe for that matter. Put it like this : WHen the band have finished one song you dont have to franticcally reset and RE-eq, set up all the sends etc for the next song. But this what the Ren forces you to do because the Rens seqeunces are attached to its own mixer settings which is a stupendously stupid idea. It should of course have a global mixer unnatached from the seqeuncer

The design implemented in the Ren is from the MPC 60 which was designed for for basic midi volume changes - which nobody used anyway. But that is what Akai modled and implemented in the Ren for their far more advanced sequencer/arranger, VST host sampling workstation.

Not completely accurate. The MPC 60 as well as most MPCs do not have a Track Mixer. The Track Mixer in the Ren actually routes audio and not just MIDI volume changes. The Ren is the first MPC with Insert FXs on its mixer. But this discussion has been beat to death and at least one thread locked.

What is being discussed here is how the Song Mode functions. And they fact that if you want your Song to Export properly, you have to keep all the sequences lined up properly. This means if you put a Drum kit on Track 1, the same Drum Kit should be on Track 1 of all sequences. Otherwise, your Song will not Export properly.

All MPCs perform this way.....
