I have q1 and q2 assiged to control filer or tune for a track. If I go to main and record some slider movemet and hit After I can hear that the recorded movement is applied. But if I go to, say, the track mixer (mode+a04) the q-sliders are no longer being applied. Going back to main makes them be applied again. Seems like a bug, or just maybe a limitation..

If this is a limitation, what's the easiest way to record some movement (perhaps to a midi cc?) which controls filter, volume, etc, which is always being applied during playback?

I think that's specification.

If you want to hear the Q-link in other screens you should first record the movements. After recording press the after button to turn it off, now when you play back the sequence you can hear the Q-link data in other screens.

In track mixer mode window the Q-link sliders is assigned to the volume of the selected track. That is the function of the Qlink slider in this window. If i remember correctly it can only record one realtime function at a time. BUT it will respond to say two MIDI CCs assigned to Q-link sliders at once in realtime, from main screen. So can depend on what function you assign the Q-link slider. So it is not a bug.

Depends on what type of data you mean. Please be more specific. Maybe you need to go to grid edit mode, Hold down shift, then hit F1 control. This will show all midi CC, pitch bend ect. You do have to know what data yeah. In this mode you will note that the Q-link slider now has a different function that helps you enter data. You can do this playing or in step mode. Hit stop + OverDub. Realtime data of samples and programs is in the step edit sequence window.

Unfortunately that won't show the q-link data. e.g. if you have Q-link set to modify filter, or chop... then record the q-link movements, you won't be able to see them in graphic mode in a midi track's CONTROL window.

Correct me if I'm wrong

that seems to be my conclusion too after a short bit of poking around. I know its recorded cos I can hear it (on some screens) but I can't see the curves or edit them.
is it possible to assign a random mid cc to say filter cutoff, and use that? especially when switching screens, and even better if said mid cc can be recorded with a q slider :)

maybe you should read my post again there astro, as you missed a bit.
OP if you can not see it but you can hear it then you are doing something wrong.
AGAIN, I ask you OP, WHAT DATA EXACTLY is it you want to edit. If it is the MPCs filter cut-off then its different to MIDI CC data isnt it?? Or do you not know this??
So again tell me the data you want to edit and I can point you in right direction. Help me to help you ok.
AND go into step edit mode astro, it is in there.
Oh and no need for different MIDI CC as you have the standard mapping, and it effects the samples filter as per usual, and its MIDI control of a MPC program samples filter. So it is a program function and realtime data that just so happens to be mapped to this same MIDI CC as standard. I believe in the old JJOS it did not do it the same, it inserted realtime data events in sequencer, like the q-link slider does. now it clearly shows the MIDI CCs in both windows. So because you are not clear with me, I did not tell you to set the track to MIDI, as you are editing the MIDI CC. does that make sense, I hope so. So you can see that you need to be clear about what your editing. Real time or MIDI CC. (and remember the MIDI CC is used to control the realtime Data for filter, for ease of use and control).

its probably better to explain what I want to achieve, and you explain the way to do it. I would like to add automation to my filter cutoff, or track volume. by this, I mean I want to for example have an 8 bar sequence running and I want to gradually open or close the filter over these 8 bars.
I find the easiest way to do this to use a slide, or a knob.

when I hit mode-a01 I can assign the slide to the cutoff. I go back to main, and hit record, move the slidere around during the sequence, then hit after and now I can hear the filter slowly open and close. great. that's what I want, But! it seems this is only applied when in the main screen, cos if I go to the track mixer, the filter movement stops. I go back to main and it starts moving again. not good. also, how can I see or edit the values which were recorded...

I started talking about midi cc because on other gear, this goal is implement ed by recording z midi cc data, and assigning it to modulate the filter cutoff. but on the mpc it looks like the q slide position data is recorded differently than midi cc.. is that True? I know where to fins the midi cc data and edit it but the recorded slider movement doesn't seem to be there.

can I do a kind of 'midi learn ' or other assignment to modulate filter cutoff by an arbitrary Cc? in this way I could record and edit the cc. hopefully it would also be applied in all pplayback modes and screens

qlink automation only plays back in MAIN, NEXT SEQ, & TRACK MUTE screens.

it is specification, but also a big limitation. probably JJ made it that way so he could achieve something else in the OS. the qlinks got gimped bigtime in OS 2XL.

back in OS 2, you could visually see and edit recorded qlink data in GRID EDIT. that was removed in OS 2XL, which sucks. the only way to edit that data now is in STEP EDIT, which is a pain.

you can map any of the MPC internal FX2 parameters to any midi CC you want (turn MIDI CC 'on' in the FX2 screen & then hit the F6 'CC' button). pretty cool feature and it should work globally.

unfortunately there is no FILTER in FX2 so to automate that you would have to use external gear.

i seem to recall in the past there were 3 'secret' midi CC parmeters that controlled the currently active track. volume (CC7), filter, and filter resonance. i don't remember what the exact CCs were for those other 2 and i don't know if that is even still active in OS 2XL. can't seem to find it in the JJ manual right now.

and I was always wondering why visual q-link data has not been implemented into GRID EDIT, since it had CC, pitch bend...

I even wanted to send JJ a request for this "new" feature.

I wonder what JJ wanted to improve by removing this important feature...?

Maybe if more of us request this feature back, he will re-implemented in OS3? or maybe next OS2 update....

A proper midi cc modulation matrix would bemore important for me... I haven't dug into this at all yet, and already am scared to hear of the limitations... I just assumed, like basically every other piece of gear ever, that the majority of functions would be controllable via midi.
Since the bloody thing doesn't have knobs, I assumed that it would be excellent at handling control from an external device (or internally edited/written cc's)
