MPC 60 O/S

Hi everybody!

I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction. I'm looking for older versions of the Akai MPC-60 O/S. I bought a MPC-60 but it needs an O/S. I don't have the new chips for the new O/S and the Akai website doesn't post them anymore. I will eventually get the upgrade from RogerLinnDesign.com but I'm tight for cash after buying the MPC. Hope someone can help! Thanks!

The guy in this thread just upgraded his 60. He may sell you his old chips.

I believe it still has the old roms in it but I think I'm in need of just a system disk? Maybe I'm wrong I'm new to this machine!

The 60 doesn't use a system disk. What exactly happens when you turn it on with no disks in the drive?

It powers up and a small "_" cursor appears in the right hand corner. I don't have any sound disks or manual for it. I'm gonna get the manual from the Akai website and see if that helps. I'll also do a search to see if this has been answered before but if someone can help me I'd really appreciate it.

It sounds broken if all that shows up is a cursor and no play / record screen.

Get it serviced. THis is well beyond the scope of Do it yourself and if they can swap the OS and fix it you're golden, but if you swap it and it fries the OS, you'll be out $300.

Fixing it shouldn't take long or cost too much.

Or should I contact Akai Professional directly? It looks like its in really great shape and I got it for dirt cheap(thank goodness!). The backlight seems very strong and its only missing the slider. My MPC 2000XL seems to be acting up and maybe I'll send both. Thanks for the input!
