Just Got MY Broken SP1200!

yo cuz 40 seems way too high, turn the gain up on yout turntable mixer and turn down the input on the sp, +40 on my emax would sample an ant fart.

yeah, that's kinda true. the sliders would be in trouble, but as you drop the XL on it you'll see more XL plastic flyin.

I Don't know, but I haven't figured out if you can monitor the sample input from the outputs on the emax. I don't think you can and you have to monitor elsewhere, but it seems weird that it would be like that, but apparently you cant monitor the input. I don't know though, because it took me a while to figure out other simple shyt on the emax, so maybe a knowledgable SP-1200 cat can let us know?

Thier is no way to monitor the sample input on an SP-12/1200.
You should only be able to hear audio when it's in Sample armed mode. Not regular VU.

Also, +40 on the SP is normal. I use to use that sample rate all the time. Now I sample at +20 because I have a few "things" I use to get a better dynamic range, and lower noise level. So I don't have to rely on the SP's less spec'd gain to amplify my sounds.

Sampling at +40 will not have any audible noise per say. That crackling and hissing has nothing to do with the gain value.

My guess is that your output module is PHUCKED. That could cost upwords of $2-300 from Wine Country in FLA. or Bruce Foreezy. It may also be a memory issue or processing chip issue. Cause some sounds sounded perfectly clear, while others were mad distorted. I'd guess that it's the output module that is **** though. I had an Emax SE like that.

damn for real? you're talking about +40dB in the VU mode Gain page right? Not the sampling rate.

THat's cool that the sample armed will let the audio through, never noticed that. I normally force sampling.

Yeah, the gain thing was a guess before the audio example was posted. It very well could be grime in the volume pot, but it could be a hosed output section.

Ok .....I think i had a short in 1 of my connectors im able to sample now and playback fine but when I sample in "Arm or force sampling" i get a distorted sound during monitoring Im convinced somethings f-d up

That's what my emax sounds like at +40 dB, are you sure the VU mode isn't pegging at that setting? I am asking as much for my own curiosity as to help, since I don't have much time on SP's as far as sampling goes, but I know my emax pretty well, and they are quite similar.

One thing to know about the SP is that it has no input monitor.......meaning while you're sampling, you can't hear the turntable - all you hear is a quiet fuzzy signal.
You have to monitor the turntable through your DJ mixer while you're sampling.

Then after you have actually sampled the sound, when you trigger the pad, THEN you hear what you've sampled.

Now, if the XL and 1200 had a race, the xl would win. But the 1200 is heavier. The 60 would run everybody over.
Lets not mention my SP 303, my tv controller weighs more.
