Ok here is the deal.I sampled some sounds in my computer , with the mpc editor i coppy them in a hd disk (with a tape covering the right hole).I power up the mpc 60 and tried to load the contents of the disk. The 60 read the contents but when i tried to load the sounds after a while the following message poped up at the lcd :

"Sorry but a software bug of type 06H caused all memory to be lost. Please write down as much as you can remember of what happened that caused this screen to appear.Call or send this information to your AKAI distibutor"

then the mpc crashed and stayed to that screen.
I tried to perform again the same operation but the same thing happened.
Out of fear for the ram , i tried to sample directly to the 60 , and all was good. Then i tried to save the sampled sound to a disk and all was good.
The problem is when i try to load from the floppy.
I have the mpc 60 for 2 months and i didn't have any problems before.
Another thing that i have to mention is that i changed the room that i keep the mpc 60 and in the last 10 days i keep it in a room that hasn't got any heat so the room is very cold.Additionally i haven't touched the mpc 60 these last 10 days.
Any help would be gratly appreciated cause i don't know what to do.
Thank you in advance.

get 720k DD/DS disks, don't just cover the hole. Also, format the floppy in the 60 then put the sounds on it in the computer.

Thanks for the reply elmacaco. But the thing is i use hd disks all the time and it was ok.Now i can't even load my old disks , that worked well in the past.Don;t you think it might be something else?
Its a litlle bit stupid but don't you think that cold have somethin to do with it?Maybe there was some moisture that damaged some floppy circuits or something?

So you think it is just the floppy disks and nothing else?If so , will the floppy drive work properly with the dd disks or its 'ucked up now and i have to change it?
Thanks again.

wait, i'm using regular ole' HD floppy disks in my machine right now. so was the guy who i bought it off of. i never power on the machine with a floppy inserted. if i need to save a file to a new disk i insert the disk (while powered on and the sample ready to save) and go to disk>format, wait a few minutes, then once it's done i hit disk>save a sound and bam it's done.

i don't mess around with tape over holes or anything.

if i am to be using a different type of floppy disk or loading/formatting/saving with a different method that the one described PLEASE let me know ASAP! i don't want to cause any damage on this baby!

Well if your floppy drive happens to be a HD drive it will read both fine, but 60 didn't ship with these AFAIK.

So if someone swapped it, it should be fine, but if it is the original drive you should stick with what it was meant to be used with.

Try A disk cleaner disk from Radio shack, maybe it's dirty. If that doesn't work, try the DD disks (you should switch anyway if the drive is original.) if that fails, you need a new floppy drive.

Using DD disks on a HD drive doesnt hurt them if they are built for both, but using HD in a DD can really mess it up.

^word, elmac. it looks as though the guy replaced the floppy drive at some point because i'm not having any problems with these HDs. and there is a bit of extra space in between the floppy drive and the slot in which it fits into. maybe there was some sort of faceplate similar to that which you would find in a car stereo/cd system before and dude tossed it (or lost it) after instalation.

who knows. i've never seen a stock 60 up close enough to tell the difference. cosmetically, i'm please with mine.

yeah if you don't have to tape the hole it is likely it is a different drive, here are no gaps in mine.

And what about this message:
"Sorry but a software bug of type 06H caused all memory to be lost. Please write down as much as you can remember of what happened that caused this screen to appear.Call or send this information to your AKAI distibutor"
Has anyone seen it before? What does it means?
Do you also think that my floppy is broken down now?

Highlife , do you know what is the model of the hd floppy drive that you have?Cause i knew that the only floppy that goes with the 60 is a teac model.

The correct installation of a floppy drive in the MPC60 will format a drive as DD no matter if the disk is DD or HD. It does not check for the precense of a "hole" as it assumes that all disks are DD. You can format and save to a HD disk and it does not care.

Since most modern PC's are aware of DD and HD, they will check for a hole. If there is a hole, the PC will be convinced that it is HD, but if it has been already formatted in the MPC60, then the PC will not read it.

As far as the original problem, what OS MPC60?

Nah man, the 60 will not let you use a HD disk without the hole covered, I have a floppy disk HD formatted in a 3k and the 60 says the disk is bad until you tape the hole.

My mpc 60 has the 3.1 os.
The thing is that today,i found some dd disks.I put one of them in the 60 ,format it.Then i saved a sound.turn off the 60 , then open it again and tried to load the sound from the dd disk. Finally the disk load just fine. That leads me to believe that it was after all the hd's that caused my 60 to malfunction.
