First of all, sorry for my bad english!

I'm totally new to the MPC60 and having some issues with programs.

I sampled a lot of drums and some piano-sounds... In program 1, I put all my drums and in program 2, I put all my piano-sounds.

back in the main screen I have a sequence with 2 tracks, one for my drums an one for my piano-melody. So I selected track 1 and chose "pgm: 1" and on track 2 i chose "pgm: 2"
I don't know if this is correct but for me, it looked like logical way to do it.

Now the problem:
I select track one and record my drum pattern, switch to track 2 but the sound are still the ones from program 1... even though it displays "pgm: 2".... i have to select the "pgm"-thing...switch it to "1" and back to "2"...then i will hear the pgm-2 sound on track 2.

after i recorded the second track. i noticed that the drum pattern on track 1 is played with the sound from pgm-2.... :(

so the last pgm I switched to is selected for all tracks....

what am i doin wrong?
what is the normal way to set up a couple of pgms and assign them individually to certain tracks in a seq?

again... sorry for my bad english :)

...searched in the manual for any explanation....found nothing

I really need someone to check if it's a bug....

roundup: It's not possible to use more than one program at a time. i have 2 tracks....each with an individual pgm.... but only the last selected pgm is played by all tracks... lets say i changed the program of track 2 from 1 to 2....every track in the seq is playing the individual pattern with pgm 2... regardless of which pgm is assigned to the tracks

I never played around with it myself, 64 pads is more then enough for me :P
But it seems its not possible:

The MPC60 has 8 different programs (one of which can be active at a
time
) each with its own unique set of 64 assignments. Simply by
changing the active program number (1–8), all 64 sound assignments
and their sound modifying settings will instantly change.

No it's not a bug, that's all you get, 1 active pgm, 64 pads, limitation of your machine.

hmmm...ok.... i thought "one of which can be active at a time" per track...

... I saw a video on youtube: A guy programmed a drum kit. the kit is running an he's is improvising some stuff with other samples... the samples are on the same pads where the drumsounds have been. so he changed the program on an other track.

I can't believe that this is not possible. I was using the mpc 2000 for years....ok the mpc 60 is several years older... but it has to be possible anyways :)

crazy shit ^^
I still believe it's a bug

got more suggestions?

or its not a bug :)

damn... ^^

sooo...what is the pgm-functions purpose? program a beat and change the whole set of sounds? ok... i read the stuff about the midi-assignment and i have to say...it makes sense... so the mpc 60 isn't possible to check for multiple-midi-assignments across the different pgms and tracks....

but one ? remainz :)

I'm possible to assign different pgms to different tracks... but why?
track 1 with pgm 1 and track 2 with pgm 2.... but under the circumstances specified above the mpc will only use one pgm for both tracks... I don't get the point about the possibility to assign different pgms to different tracks

Can i ask you another question, why cant you just put the drumsounds and piano in the same program... you dont have a program filled with 64 drumsamples do you?

hehe... I love this type of reply

All my beats are made that way... till now ;)

It just would be great. So I could create pgm with just all my drums... or better, just with snares or bassdrums.

... still no answer ^^

I dunno i tried skimming thru the manual but im at work so i dont have much time..... everything points to it not being able to do it though.

i read through tones of threads.... everywhere the same ... no way to use more than 1 pgm at a time.

doesn't matter...still the best machine i ever worked with ;)

I agree. :D

If you want more active programs I suggest moving to 2kxl and above.

I do not have an MPC60 nor have I ever touched one. This answer is based purely on logic.

Your machine is limited to using one active program at a time, but you would like the ability to use two at the same time?

Well much of the above advice is true and valid, it is not a bug. But if you really must use more than one program there is a workaround.

If you have OS 3.10 on your MPC60 you can create a program with up to three sounds/ samples assigned to play from an incoming MIDI note number or pad. The sounds can either play simultaneously or switch depending on note velocity (or possibly other modulation sources?).

This means you could create a program which has drum samples assigned to high velocities (96-127), another set of samples assigned to medium velocities (32-96) and potentially a third set of samples assigned to low velocities (0-31). You would use programming tools to control the velocity range of incoming notes thereby selecting which set of samples would be assigned to a track.

While simple working with one-shot samples, this method may prove tricky and time-consuming if you want to use keygroup type pitched sample programs such as a piano spread over a wide range of notes. But if you really must, is it doable.
