No, it doesn't need a flip screen and no one makes a product like that specifically for Maschine. I was just pointing out that if someone wants to use it angled, they can. I certainly don't need it.
On that we agree. There is no equipment for everyone. That's about the only thing that you've said that makes any sense and that is unbiased.
YOU don't think Maschine needs a flip screen. I think it does. You are entitled to your opinion. I'm entitled to mine. With a MPC, I don't need any other product to angle it just so I can see the screen.
emptysea wrote:No, it doesn't. Maschine's automapping of plugin parameters work very well, although there's still lots of room for improvement. Whatever the plugin shows to the host as far as parameter names and values, Maschine will display them on the dual displays above the knobs.
My biggest problem with Maschine is the hardware controller. Are you trying to tell me that Maschine wouldn't be better off with a bigger screen??? Maybe even a color screen??? If you don't feel like that, that's your opinion. I think the screens are too small for everything that it's trying to do especially since it's trying to control vst's now and give you the feel of a hardware workstation.
emptysea wrote:The whole workaround of recording the automation in arrange view and then having to copy and paste that data into session view clips is utter fail in terms of workflow compared to Maschine where you can just push a button and turn knobs to record automation right into clips.
Once again, that's your opinion. I respect that, but I don't feel that way. That one point isn't enough for me to drop Live and use Maschine exclusively for beatmaking and vst hosting. There's no way in hell.
emptysea wrote:If you've been to the Ableton forum, you'll know where to find that list. They'll do a much better job at that than me since I don't really use it anymore because of Maschine. But the main issue with Live is the serious stability issue they've been struggling with ever since Live 8, which is not a good sign for a tool whose main purpose is supposed to be live performance.
That means absolutely nothing. Any product forum you go to will have people there complaining about a product. That's pretty much the whole purpose of a forum, and that applies to everything. Reason/Record are super stable, but if you go to their forums, you will see plenty of complaints about Reason/Record. It won't be about stability. Instead, it will be about Reason/Record not having 3rd party plug in hosting, and not having midi out capability. You'll also see threads about the users wanting better synths. I don't go to Maschine's forums, but I'm sure if I did, there would be plenty of complaints about it too. That's just the way forums are. It's the same way in the MPC 5000 forum too. There, users are complaining about the fact that Akai hasn't come out with another bug fix. That doesn't mean that they don't want their 5000's anymore. It's just the nature of forums. If you read product forums and let that sway your opinion about a product before you buy it, you'll never buy anything because nothing is perfect. It's all about what you are comfortable with. My opinion of Maschine isn't based on anything I've read in a forum. My opinion is based on what I, myself, see, and I know it's not for me.
emptysea wrote:That's a non-issue as I can already timestretching inside Maschine with various plugins including Reaktor, Kontakt, Melodyne...etc. And NI have been working on a state of the art realtime timestretch algorithm for Maschine that's going to be built in. And for me, Maschine and Logic combined is a far more powerful and elegant solution than Live's arrange/session view.
That's your opinion, and I respect that. I don't agree, and I think your opinion is disingenuous. First you said that you were replacing Live with Maschine. Now you are saying that you are using,
Reaktor, Kontakt, Melodyne, Logic, etc........... all to replace Live. If you need
ALL THAT to replace Live, than I don't feel as though I have to prove anything else. Knock yourself out man.
emptysea wrote:Nope. For people whose main interest in Live was mainly the session view, Maschine has already become a serious alternative. The total integration with the tactile, dedicated hardware is a huge advantage for Maschine.
Once again, that's your opinion. I disagree. For me, the total integration of Maschine is the only thing appealing about it. If you take that away, you have a new drum sequencer/wanna be DAW that's in it's infancy that just recently acquired vst hosting, but doesn't host Rewire clients and can't handle audio tracks. I'll give NI some credit. It seems that they are listening to their user base and adding new features, but personally, I think it has an identity crises now. Is it a virtual drum machine with impressive integration with it's control surface, or is it a junior DAW that's in serious need of bread and butter functions????
It's not for everyone, and it's definitely not for me. Even if I did convince myself that I absolutely needed that integration between software and control surface that Maschine offers, I don't think I could ever replace Live with it. I don't think that I would really want it to control my vst's, especially when you consider the fact that you still ultimately need a real DAW. That's what I get from what you've said and from what the website states:
After quickly and intuitively developing your ideas, drag and drop your patterns as MIDI or audio files directly into your DAW to finalize and mix your production.
http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/ ... ?page=1420The integration between the software and the hardware is nice. I'm not disputing that, but Maschine isn't for me. I don't like the control surface. I really wouldn't want to replace Live with it. I couldn't replace Live with it. I personally wouldn't want to control vst's with it either. Ultimately, in my opinion it doesn't bring anything to the table. Maschine, even with it's integration, would only be another distraction. I can already do everything I need, and I like my workflow just the way it is. If I want to work on hardware, I can use my MPC 3000 and Motif.
That's my opinion.
