Hi
I just got an MPC Live 2, i did this upgrade to see if it can replace my MPC 1000 with JJOSXL. I love it till now, def more powerful, but I have a major issue that kills my workflow which is related to the sequencer.
I will explain with a very easy example:
Let's say I have a drum program with just a kick on pad 1. I sequence 1 step on each beat, so 4/4 pattern (or 1,5,9,13 on step sequencer) with FULL VELOCITY. Then i try to add another note on step 8 with velocity 10, that step is right before 3td kick. This is helpful so i have different volumes for swinged notes.
All works well, till i add swing to the sequence. Let's say i add a swing of 65, normally in Ableton the swing steps will be moved forward and get shorter so that it doesn't overlap with the note on step 9, which is the way it should work. On MPC i get a full 16th note length that gets moved forward and overlaps with next step in the sequencer, in this case the step 9. When I play the sequence step 9 will inherit velocity of step 8 so I will lose the full velocity.
I have to mention that this issue occurs only when I have that pad set to note on, but does NOT occur when in one shot mode.
This is a killer in my opinion, as i often use this trick to make the swing notes quieter, but in the MPC the very next note always become quiet as well.
The workaround i to shorten the swang notes so that it doesn't overlap with next note. But this is so time consuming and big workflow killer.
It would be great to have some kind of last note priority, or any way to stop velocities from overlap, or the swing to act as in ableton, when swang notes gets shorter to not overlap with the very next note.
Is there any way of achieving what I want? any settings that I a missing?
Here are 2 images that demonstrates the issue:
