These motherfvckers.

"Aaaw hell nah n*gga. I'm going to need those arrow keys man, I can't fuxx with this Touch sh*t. Imma tell Preemo to put his unit on eBay right now."

"Aaaw hell yeah, I'm NOT going to need those arrow keys man, I fuxx with this sh*t! Imma tell Preemo to put his OLD unit on eBay right now."

Those arrow keys have less relevance when your using samples. Samples won't play in the middle of it, you would have to catch the top of the sample.

But I see how it important it is for you, you included legends in your point.

Wouldn't make much sense....there's so damn much noise in terms of companies selling stuff for discounted prices. If I had to bet my money on something, I'd say NAMM 2017.

Will they hold on to 2.0 until the end of January? Will they release 2.0 now, charge the fee and then we buy MPC Live with second redundant 2.0 license.

I noticed Pete's cryptic tweet, that they are still working on it.

The way I work often is loop and make 2 bars, then duplicate, then make some changes to the new bars 3 and 4, and I dont always want to wait till the playhead reaches the end of bar 4 to make changes there; I use the arrow keys to quickly get to the start of bar 4, hit overdub and play, and do whatever. Even if it's 8 bars or even 16, I can hit >> to immediately have the playhead jump to the very end, and then I jump back by 1 or 2 bars or whatever to make changes to those bars (especially do small drum edits at end of bar etc).

This CAN be done with the Touch, but you always have to change your focus to the bar field, adjust it, and change it that way. This is nowhere as fast or smooth as it was with MPCs with arrow keys.

I understand this isn't a big thing for those who are not used to the MPC workflow, but those who are may find this a bit crippled and it definitely does put a dent on the "iconic MPC workflow".
This makes sense on paper – "Oh that can be done using the touch screen" – but IRL it is a more convoluted process and it does hinder the workflow a bit.

That being said, I worked on some sh*t with the Touch last night and realized I liked it way more than I thought, and the touch screen is pretty nice in some ways.

maybe this was an intentional leak ahead of the black Friday noise.

maybe Im giving akai to much credit for being calculated, which seems laughable.

but if the site that leaked it was part of a us government dept that all manufactures have to register new electronic products with, how is it no other leaks have occurred via this means before?

@jpeg yeah,The only reason why it ended up on the FCC site was because of the WIFI card inside. If the device does not have anything that utilizes RF, it won't show up on the FCC as the FCC will have no reason to regulate it.

And yes you're giving Akai credit where credit is not due at all. I've used fcc.io for years to find out about wifi devices in the pipeline. Sometimes they screw up and reveal the block diagrams by which soon after are set to private due to fear that their sh*t will get leaked to competitors early.

Thanks for clarifying I was not knowledgeable about FCC I should of googled.

so there is no NDA that Akai can sue for leaking their product info?

@jpeg NDA's are separate things. If you and I worked for them, we have to sign an agreement that we cannot leak anything shown in for a finite amount of time. With an fcc submission, Akai chooses what can and cannot be publicly viewed, I believe they call it a Declaration of Authorization document. Case in point, the aforementioned block diagram and schematics are not made public but everything else is (You never want the schematics of a device in the pipeline to be released early, it'll give other manufacturers time to clone the hardware). The data posted can be used as a reference point for other regulatory submissions in different regions of the world.

What is also cool about the site/engine is that you can find different revisions of unreleased hardware, sort of getting a peek at the development process. If you search by the guarantee code, Y40 you'll also see other such submissions that Inmusic has made. This isn't the only guarantee code as different divisions and outsourced manufacturers will often make their own FCC submissions and then Numark/Alesis/Akai will decide who distributes it. (Think of it like a company such as Foxconn that is used as a developer of all sorts of hardware, then they license it out to Apple, Netgear, Cisco, Dell or whoemever else to distribute it.

Thanks for the info; but regarding NDA the guitar center people that were spilling the beans on upcoming potential products dont work for Akai, so is there some sort of NDA that all retailers sign up to before they are allowed to stock products from a certain manufacturer?

@jpeg I could only assume that there are NDA's with Akai and Guitar Center but enforcing sh*t like that aint easy. I mean lets be honest, Akai aint going to go show Guitar Center any dope sh*t unless its something that is planned on coming out soon enough. I have my doubts that a part timer at Guitar Center is Akais main point of interest in the development of a product. Plus how could you prove who broke an NDA?

Yes all retailers will generally sign an NDA with the manufacturers. This will cover all their employees, so the GC guys will be breaking the NDA unless they've been told by Akai that it's okay to discuss.
