I'm sure akai already have the finished design for the X2. I don't know what they are going to do about the One though, they'll probably have just 4 steps with banks....or they may just not bother with the step sequencer on the smaller model.

I'm still waiting for an HDMI (or any video) out. Guess I'll have to wait for the X3

why the obession with HDMI when there is the option for controller mode if u want to use ur computer screen.

also the HDMI format is due to be replaced

I dont think the MPC One will have the physical step sequencer buttons

Maybe people demanding that don’t want to switch on a pc to begin with? But I also don’t really see it or get it. If you want the PC experience with a controller, then maybe get a PC with mouse, keyboard and controller, setup autostart of MPC SW (that’s what basically happens on an MPC) and deal with it plus having the advantage of better performance and more plugins. The only real difference of an MPC and a PC boils down to the MPC being a very limited PC anyway.
Maybe a Renaissance plus PC is what they want really? :hmmm:

I appreciate the many positives of standalone, but once people start talking about HDMI, mouse support, VST support, more RAM etc, I'm really wondering why they still need the 'standalone' bit, the advantages are much diminished. Doesn't it make more sense to buy yourself a nice laptop and go all in with controller mode?

My guess: users loath administering a general purpose OS and its host of integration problems with random software... They want the packaged it-just-works experience of a system whose producer has done the integration drudge work for them... That is the baseline demand.

The DAW-in-a-box vs. Music Instrument rift comes on top of that common ground. I think that the DAW-in-a-box crowd fail to accept the tradeoff: the cost of the robust packaged experience with excellent hardware integration is limited features... No manufacturer will promise all the software on top of a system that does all the things - complexity is antinomic to industrial reliability.

That said, all things remaining equal on the MPC platform, HDMI out and USB mouse support would not disrupt the equilibrium nor any existing usage, and might win a bunch of misguided yet profitable customers.

Product management and users with varying degrees of understanding of the stakes, and antagonistic demands... This feels way too much like dayjob !

A modern mpc with mouse support will be a godsend to those with huge hands.

While the MPC X, One , and Live III have a billion tactile buttons… Midi note editing via the grid edit screen is a pain via the touch screen.

It would be so much faster to edit or move notes with a mouse.

The jury is out if the the new step sequencer will make editing notes faster in grid mode.

Will definitely buy a Live III for that feature and more than 8 audio tracks .

People will keep asking for hdmi out since the chipset supports it and had the connection for it during the Microsoft reveal 8 years ago.

hyena wrote:yes, thanks for clarifying. i get that a clip matrix would make sense also for playing live, but that we already have, its called ableton live, or push , if you want it standalone. not saying its a bad thing to have inside an mpc , but i really like the mpc way of dealing with a liveset, and i really cannot grasp why ditch the entire thing... is the whole sequence\track\program paradigm perceived as a difficult thing to grasp?

I actually had a complete stranger approach me once at a session and ask me if I knew how to load more than one kit :-D
I do however like programs and would hate for them to disappear completely (it seems they did). But then I also sold off my MPC One and have found a new love for JJ on the 1000 and my trusty 2kxl (plus my Digitakt with SP404mk2 and 303). If I need more than that I’m fine using Ableton. For me it’s about sampling and using samples though so I really don’t care about those plugins Akai has been releasing (and I was happy to have gotten a good deal on my sale of the stuff I had bought).

I am with you on the touch screen issue. AkainMusic could have incorporated a trackball/trackpad or anything instead of a jog wheel maybe. That's why I welcome the many new buttons because at the moment even for me with little programmer hands ;) I can only really use the touch screen with a stylus.

For the HDMI I think that this would create new scaling problems. You either blow up the internal screen to work on a 49" screen which depending on how you scale everything will look ridiculous. Or you load the MPC SW UI which might be nice but probably creates many new issues, make the OS way more complicated and we now have to deal with some more bugs that akainmusic will never fix.
But maybe someone could enlighten me how close the OS and the Desktop version of the SW are? Maybe they are the same but load different UIs? Then I would say go for it.

I'm with you in this statement. That my sentiment since the mpc 3 firmware, that puts the mpc workflow more close to a daw.
In a side note, there is no need for hdmi, this is not 2005, usb c can output graphics if it is linked to the graphics processor.

I know I’ll get hate for this but if you em have ever owned a mv8800 you understand what a plus a hdmi out can be. I for instance just don’t want to use and maintain a pc but would love a hdmi out. I truly don’t understand the hate towards it since it’s just an option, YOU do NOT need to use it.
