Danoc wrote::-D Yo man l'm NYC and l got my hands dirty cutting/splicing tape with a razor blade. So you're not talking to a cat that don't know about that. That would be like a dude who splice told you using Protools or any DAW is wack you go ahead and use a simulated process (computer) to edit tape.

When you use your hardware everything ends up in PT or a DAW right? If you're a TRUE HARDWARE guy don't use a DAW just go straight to 2 inch tape and splice

At the end of the day consumers of music don't care what we use as long as the music is hot.

Well i respect anyone who spliced the tape back in the day. There's still no magic bullet for that.In fact that prccess is so 'real' and full of gritty old school magic i feel sad for a new generation who will probably never have the pleasure. And just go straight to the promised land of simulation.Glad you found a workflow that works as you like.I mix between the two.Im back rockin the MPC 5000 and am having a great time.Got the software on lock too so not stressing.Found a balance.

@DANOC. I just picked up two DBX 160X's

As far as the software vs hardware debate. At this point it all comes down to preference, because software emulations will get 95% there now.

My issues with software:
1. Second hand resale market
2. Reinstalling the software after a new computer build.

My issues with hardware:
1. The electric bill
2. Repair/upkeep cost to keep them running great.
3. The heat.

Nevertheless, I use them both depending on the situation that I'm in. But in the long run, neither are going to make your music any better, if your ears suck, your room sucks, and the groove sucks.

There are definitely ways where hardware excels, and it's often the tangible aspect that takes the cake.
E.g., I can make sounds with my hardware synths for way longer than with my software ones.
I do both, but I feel I get more easily bored with software; turning knobs is so much nicer.

I agree that tactile is the key. It helps us to make music with our ears and not our eyes. I find many people get to caught with what the settings say and/or what Wav file looks like. Instead of what the music sounds likes and how it makes us feel.

For everyone, here's a Waves Code for 10% off, it works I tried it.
Code: YNY23

Ima try and hold out can't hold out to long, if anyone see the SSL-E Channel for $29 from Waves holla quickly. Probably won't see that until next year.

Also I am trying to get that Torque filter to work in automation. Rep over at Waves told me I have to automate the frequencies using Studio One automation. This is the best Filter I have heard, and the filter on Nexus, dope. :worthy:
I gotta get this baby working. Anyone that got Torque holla at me if you do it.
Peace and Thanks

That’s what I used to run my MPC 2500 through.

Yep young gen going to go straight to software one day. In all schools should require students to cut tape with a razor. The need to appreciate those techniques cause they got it real good. A few razor cuts should put them in perspective.

I use software and love hardware but l fell in love with being compact. I love l can save my settings and use them again when l need it. Automation and so forth.

Software treats me well and the only hardware l have is my midi keyboard and MPC Live.

Lol man as soon as I read your post I responded. Just seeing this. Sorry you guys missed it. It was right on the front page of their site. It’ll be on their again soon. Definitely several times during all of the fall holidays I’m sure.

Right now all vocal plugins are on sale for $29. Vocal rider is great for keeping vocal levels consistent.

Coming from cassette splicing, it really teaches you to know the material by ear and precisely cut it without a screen. Also beatmatching on two turntables goes a hell of a long way. I think without those roots in Hip Hop or even Electronic music, there wouldn't be any masters in the game.

Man you told me after 10pm that night lol Its all good though.

Yeah l just coped the CLA-Vocal its swwweeeett! Its like having many effects in one for vocals. The rep over at Wavs gets A+ for helping me.

So right now l got Waves joints:
1. Renaissance Vox
2. CLA effects
3. CLA Vocals
4. Torque..

There's a couple of more joints l want from waves. SSL E channel is a must.

The chopping features since the MPC 4000 was a god send. Other than that, I don't know why people want to work so fast. (This does not include loading beats from FLOPPY DISK. They can keep that crap.) But many act like saving 10 minutes will really make difference. I think it's important to take the time and sit with the music.

I love to track out the music, because in the long run. I spend less time mixing and fiddling with it.

Oh yeah, I definitely do not want to go back to splicing, going digital was a godsend for me. I can go back to a point a few hundred times and not worry about counters and cassette heads wearing down. It made things easier but probably take the same amount of time to do. I pretty much mix everything within the sampler nowadays, so when I record, its less to mix later.
