Yeah you're right about that. I would definitely miss starting up the Live and banging out some drums really quick, without having to boot up my laptop and hook up a controller

I thought about that as well, until laptops had SSD and I had my productions software auto load as soon as my laptop booted. I've timed it before and it took about 10 seconds to start up and load the software.

Yeah thats not a bad way to do it! idk there is something about having it in a seperate dedicated box that keeps me going to the Live. maybe its just my short attention span, but if i'm on the laptop I end up killing time on forums and reddit lol I feel like the Live helps keep me focused

If 2.3 is a major dissapointment I'll probably go this route. a seperate dedicated laptop that just runs software/ holds all drums/ vsts

1. Have a dedicated Computer.
2. Disable everything not needed for the productions
3. Disable all wireless and Ethernet ports if your computer has them.
4. Enjoy your escape from constant communications.

If you use LIVE the way it was designed, it works well. There are some bugs that can be fixed. But many times it's how people use the machine. Trying to do something it's not designed to do, will always cause issues. Truly they just need to fixed the software bugs and worry about adding features later.

As of now, the MPC Ren is in the decline/legacy period, considering it came out in 2012. For us end user we do not look at it that way, but for companies they have to move on.

The MPC LIVE and X are currently in the Growth cycle and has about another year to mature. Until Akai is ready to introduce another unit. The good thing is, if the MPC Live or X is a good seller, that can extend it's growth period, because many units will remain under warranty. As for the REN, I'm sure there are no new units that are under Akai's replacement warranty.

I do hope that they keep up the firmware support for MPC REN and Studio but the last update was Feb 2016 based off of Akai's release notes. The Studio Black and Touch are still being sold new, so they are current.

Man I'm doing software & games more than 10 years now so believe me I know how it works, not need to explain. But it's not just a matter if something is new or old but also if it's capable to run something. Studio Black isn't more powerful than MPC Ren afaik, even if it's new cool kid. And as I repeat third time now - they are going into other direction - they just opened MPC Software for other midi controllers, from other manufactures. So if you could control your MPC Software on for example - Novation controller - there is no point to drop support for Akai's devices.

EOT for me, don't want to waste time arguing on the internet - just looking forward for what they will prepare for us in terms of new features and bug fixing.

I think you are misreading what I'm typing because, I've been saying that they are going in a different directions, this entire time. So we're actually in agreement.

Also you work in software, any way you can code a WINDOW 10 driver for the MPC 4000. That way we can use the 4000 with Aka sys without dual booting or running Window XP on a virtual machine.

I do kind of understand peeps' disappointment and thoughts re: selling the Live/X.
After all, not all of their functionality is on 2018 level, and some for basic functions (e.g., editing automation) you have to go to software. Not great news for those who want to use it standalone only.

Also always good to take things "being on the roadmap" with a grain of salt.
E.g., plugin delay compensation has been missing since 2012, which was wan Ren came out. I guess it's been "on the roadmap" for six years, while it's very basic functionality.

My Live has this weird bug that happens seldom, but pad 9 starts to crash the device – only that pad. That "mode" can last anywhere from 30 secs to two minutes…even when the device is booting again. Not a great look. I'm still trying to be in talks with the distributor as for what we're going to do with it.

Most GD's I know design games on Windows! You might as well, design games for LINUX.  Just Kidding. It was worth a try. But you see the MPC 4000 is prime example of Akai not updating the USB driver. At least they could do is release the code, so someone else could write an update.

i HEAR you bro, I hope the same. But I only use it for what I use it for. I will rock the computer and my DAWs still. I have invested in companies I know been around for years, and I know that they won't drop support. That's a great thing, Akai scares me to death on that point of view of dropping support. But life goes on and my music must goes on. 2.3 should be a step up.

Now I want Akai to read this!

Turtor bust his ass for us more, and its Akai's dam product. Where l am now is l don't see me buying another machine.

Why spend energy and money with Akai if they come weak when l can use dope DAWs and hot plugins?

I don't wanna hear nothing from Dan, Andy or Pete l would like to see results.

Yeah honestly I've had thoughts about selling my live recently too. Thats why I'm hoping 2.3 can deliver some solid improvements. I got the MPC Live for the standalone mode, but its missing some pretty major things, and I keep ending up back on my computer. If im gonna use a DAW and controller I don't really need the live, so I'm really anxious to see what Akai has planned for the next big update.
