As of now, the MPC Ren is in the decline/legacy period, considering it came out in 2012. For us end user we do not look at it that way, but for companies they have to move on.
The MPC LIVE and X are currently in the Growth cycle and has about another year to mature. Until Akai is ready to introduce another unit. The good thing is, if the MPC Live or X is a good seller, that can extend it's growth period, because many units will remain under warranty. As for the REN, I'm sure there are no new units that are under Akai's replacement warranty.
I do hope that they keep up the firmware support for MPC REN and Studio but the last update was Feb 2016 based off of Akai's release notes. The Studio Black and Touch are still being sold new, so they are current.
Man I'm doing software & games more than 10 years now so believe me I know how it works, not need to explain. But it's not just a matter if something is new or old but also if it's capable to run something. Studio Black isn't more powerful than MPC Ren afaik, even if it's new cool kid. And as I repeat third time now - they are going into other direction - they just opened MPC Software for other midi controllers, from other manufactures. So if you could control your MPC Software on for example - Novation controller - there is no point to drop support for Akai's devices.
EOT for me, don't want to waste time arguing on the internet - just looking forward for what they will prepare for us in terms of new features and bug fixing.
