Products like this tend to have a 3 year cycle, so regardless of what else they are putting out you would have to assume the MPC X and MPC Live are going to be replaced in 2020 or at the very least something new will come out either this year or next that will tempt you away from these older machines. Akai are full of surprises, so I wouldn't like to expend too much energy guessing what that might be - it could be a simple hardware upgrade, or it could be something more intriguing.

Always something new coming, either from Akai or from other manufacturers, so not sure it's feasible to keep holding back on purchasing. Also remember that most products these days take quite some time to iron out the bugs and issues, so even if something gets released in 6 months time it might not be wise to purchase it straight away.

Remember Ableton offered a discounted trade-in when they brought out Push 2, so would expect something similar should push 3 ever materialise.

BTW, I was never tempted by the X, seems excessively priced considering it's running the same underlying computing power as the Live. IMO the flagship should have more memory, more storage, faster processor etc.

I just migrated to MPC after being a long term maschine user after becoming a bit jaded by native instruments attitude toward development and customer interaction, it seems to me that it's pretty much the ideal time to be coming on board, there's genuine meaningful improvement being made to the product line and you can't really fault the way Akai appear to be all in for customer contact.. glad I made the switch when I did..

Don't get excited about the the Force until you see a video with Geoff and Pete. History with the Ren and Live has shown us this is when the product features are ready for primetime.

They will discontinue X and make a 4gb Live.
At the end of this year or beginning of next.

In the end who cares?? Thats how it goes..

Playstation 1, Playstation 2, PS3, 4 and so on..

As long as they implement the promised features in 2019 there shouldn’t be any complains.

I don’t expect my X to be the flagship model for ever. I just want it to do the things that I need it to do.

And if Akai launches the X-2 and Live-2 I wont jump on that ship if I don’t need it.

That’s something Apple fanboys do..

Yes same here.
I am fine with my Live, I don't use audio tracks so I don't care much about more Ram or disc streaming.
Just new fx and synths excite me, for the rest I have nothing to complain.
On my Mac I used 10.10 and never upgraded anymore. Now it's on a bag, silent, taking a long nap.

:WTF: THE HELL DID AKAI DO! That's why they couldn't get the MPC live/X working right, their asses been working on this! :Sigh: Freakin Time stretch is awwwwwwwwssssssssommmmmmmmeee! crap!

They have the Air Effects in it! :WTF: This is not freakin fair! :x This is crazy. taking 2 steps to do something, awwwwwwwh man this ain't right! I would trade my Live in if it wasn't for the 64 pads, I don't like those pads. I like banging on normal size pads, and now this is truly a stand alone. I wonder how many people will trade in their Live/X? :hmmm:
Tape stop too? Im really really Sun Hot pissed :x

MPC Renaissance 2012
MPC Touch 2015
MPC LIve /X 2017
Akai Force 2019
