Pro Tools/Digi 002 Users

I am looking into getting an Digi 002, but should i get a Mac instead of using my PC Windows?

I guess it all depends on how powerful your pc is. I know you need the latest OS and lots of ram no matter what. I use an old G3 Imac and it works fine for me. I do reccomend a Mac though to be honest, they are just very stable for applications such as Pro Tools. Most of the pro's use mac's as well as major studio's from what I can tell. But it all depends on what you can afford and how you want to use it. One thing is for sure though, when pro tools is involved you can NEVER have enough memory. Good luck, I know you'll enjoy the 002 its a tight piece of gear.

i use both, mac at school and pc at home, i gotta say mac, if nothing else because it's gonna be what most studios are gonna have, and it's just industry standard for operating pro-tools. if u can i would just cop one of those emacs or imacs, the new ones are pretty tight G5!!

My friend..even though the mac is the industry standard computer, pro tools has a feature to where if your are recording with a pc it will make your sessions compatiable with mac users.....I myself have a pc running pro tools and so far its been flawless.......!

You'll want to get another hd just for your PT sessions(this isn't absolutely necessary but will give you better performance) and check the Digi forum to make sure the hardware in your PC is compatible with Digi hardware. You should be able to get an idea of what kind of performance you should expect with your system in the Digi user forum, they have a looooong ass thread dedicated to the subject.

Yeah 80 gigs is straight but like cooocooo1 said you will want to get another hard drive for pro tools........My athlon pc has 80 gigs but I also went to best buy and bought an external hard drive that is 120 gigs.... Just go to the web and it will have all the listings for ya my man.......!

i used to diss on pc's for a long time, always a mac head. then i got a new gig where they had a pt rig on a pc. at first i was like, aww man! this sucks! a pc?

but after a little getting used to, i gotta say, the thing is pretty rock solid. it really hasnt batted an eye at me since i started using it over the past 2 months.

and cosign on what the other cats were saying about getting another drive to run your sessions on.

Can the G5 run the 6.1 version of PRO TOOLS LE? Also, didn't you guys find the 8 inputs restricting?

I bought the DIGI002, and have 8 outs on my MPC4k, also about 8 other inputs I need. I'm looking at the AKAI DPS or the TASCAM sx1LE. Those are some great hardware recorders.

The Mac G5 is only supported with Pro Tools LE 6.2.2 or higher and MacOS 10.3 or above.

As far as the inputs, you could buy an interface like the Behringer ADA8000 for around 200.00 bucks or even better still, the ADAT option for the 4k and take advantage of the ADAT input on the 002 giving you 16 inputs, 18 if you use the spdif inputs as well. If you're not feelin' PT though I think the Akai DPS24 is a good way to go.
