In Cubase if you drag a file in from the desktop that has a mismatched sample rate to the project, you invariably get a sample with a messed up pitch in comparison to the other tracks. Does this happen across other DAWs?

The reason I ask is because I sent a track out to have a bassline added and the fella sent it back with the tuning in-between semitones, claiming the track was "out of tune". I gave him a 24/48 file, and I'm guessing he's dragged it into a 44.1 project.

Trying to Auto-tune or Melodyn a bass part seems virtually impossible without introducing artefacts. :Sigh:

Happens everytime I load something unmatched to the project.
Sound Forge, Reaper, Vegas.

I keep my UFX on 24/48 and all daws/sound editors match that.
The second I drop in 16/44 it's out of tune, artifacts, general sample rate mismatch.
Artifacts most times sounds metallic, put on headphones and listen closely to deeper samples and you'll hear it clearly.

It's common and normal.

Gotta convert or match stuff up/down (down degrades) someway.

Yeah, maybe a tab or option I forgot to setup. :Sigh:

this doesn´t happen over here, i´m using cubase aswell, currently i´m on version 7. A message will pop up asking me if I want to change the sample rate (make it fit) or not

I don't know if it's a problem specific to Cubase 6, but if you open up a file through the standard Import settings it gives you the option to convert.

It's when you drag and drop into the project that it doesn't convert. It's not an issue for the way I work, but I'm just trying to reverse engineer what might have happened in this instance.

His bass parts were the correct length but the tuning was wonky, so I'm guessing he's dragged a 24/48 track into a 24/44.1 project.

He's re-recording them anyway so fingers crossed that it's right this time.

Don't concern yourself with that. No Moog's were harmed during this process.
