Most MP3s that you get off the web are not high quality. The compression/format used to make the file small enough to send around on the web makes for sound quality loss. They sound brittle and digital. Someone else in here can better explain in technical terms why that is, but just take the Pepsi challenge. Take a MP3 from the web, and take the vinyl and a CD of the same song.
Compare by ear and see what sounds best.
I'm sure if you used some MP3 samples mixed in your track, it can still sound good....but if EVERY sample you used was sourced from MP3, it might sound sketchy.
KiloBytesPerSecond, KBPS is lowered to make it a smaller size yeah, maybe your right, it's just peoples perception of MP3 sounds they hear on the web right?.. I've heard bad ones and I've heard good ones. so yeah, I understand what you are saying, maybe peoples don't know how to differentiate between high kbps and low kbps, they are thinking all MP3's sound the same. They don't. On the other hand, maybe peeps do think it's cheating to use other media and not going through the work and fun of crate diggin.. That's the reason I feel that the Playstation refference was being used.. PS got GOOD sounds in many games.. Don't sleep, you'll be limiting yourself from some good stuff you can tweak into an excellent form..
