That is awesome! All of my twatting around, firstly with a SP12turbo and now hunting for a Emax1, is all based on wanting the Emulator 2 sound without the massive foot print.. This would work great in my studio - would get it tomorrow given half the chance..
Great picture - thanks for the post..

You have to sample everything in at 45 so that you can squeeze in the sample into the 1.5 sec banks. Then you slow the sample down to the pitch that you want it. This is what creates its unique timbre. With that being said, minimal sample time "forces" you to be more creative with whatever sample you use.
Im sure that you can "emulate" that sound on a computer but you will NEVER get the real aesthetic of the SP 1200...that's why the machine is so highly praised. Most of the new "beatmakers" have never played with one so they don't understand why it sounds the way it does. If you really want to get that SP sound, i suggest you go play with one and train your ears to understand why it sounds the way it does.
in order to get the same sound on a computer, you would have to know what you were doing on the comp, but i think even then its different, doesnt the magnetic field or just the parts in the SP1200 gave it that same sound?

Now we have better technology and specs but a lot of that goes to reducing the cost to manufacture a sellable product, not to make the product as high end as possible. We have people making a/d converters in china with god knows what materials and QC. Now if you are compring apogees or whatever thats one thing, but much of what makes it into the products today are made of lesser materials and with less QC and attention to detail than back then, when only the top end was in business.
And if you don't like the sp-1200 sound you can't be a beat god, sorry but that's grounds for disqualification right there. So is liking swizz beats style triton preset drums
and i heard a beat god saying that the ring modulator tones from the pitch contrtols on the sp1200 were useful for getting those hard miami bass 808 boooom kicks.....he did say however you can get that sound in battery but that it would take alot of programming

Nothing impossible, just sound of an original drumloop and same loop with 1200.
And maybe piano or something else melodic loop too?
I would like to see the difference.

It would be dope if people could complete the list with more classic samplers!!!
I'll mail the test samples as soon as i get my tx16w
that s950 sounds prety damn flat. haha the sp1200 has a distinctive crisp and a sick **** low end. its easier to achieve the s950 sound by pitching up and resampling. the sp sound sounds a little trickier to do.

To get that grimy ass sp sound out of your mpc 4000 heres a tip......open up your mpc dump a bucket of sand in it and put it out side in the sun for a while. Then put it all back together and then you might be able to get the same sound....if that dosent work take some sand paper to your disks this will help as well....
got some sp drums up on some of my beats check it then BUY AN SP!
