What are mute groups?
reading your manual would tell you that fastestm, but i give a small explanation in the next answer
Won't speeding up the BPM's make the loop not loop right?
this one i'll explain. ok. say you have a phrase sample, unchopped. in my first diagram, it is appropriately set so that it lasts all 4 bars in a 120 bpm sequence.
-------------- (sample)
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (8 bars at 120 bpm)
now, pretend you slow the tempo to 100. the single phrase file will now play longer than your 8 bars because it is now off the tempo of your sequencer. since its starting point is at 1.1.00, it will continue past the 8 bars.
------------------------- (sample)
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (8 bars at 100 bpm)
however, if you chop eat note into its own file and program it into a track like this:
---|---|---|--- (sample)
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (8 bars at 120 bpm)
now you have the freedom to speed up the tempo without cutting yourself off. since each note starts on its own reference point, they will play at the time you tell them to regardless of the original file. speeding up the tempo would make them overlap as they placed, each one in turn, like this
|->|->|->|->| (sample)
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (8 bars at 120 bpm)
setting your mute groups causes each new sample to cut off the one previously played. this will get rid of the notes' overlappings, if you want to. you can reasonable increase the tempo a good deal, or even change the pitch of the samples within reason.
i think this process is called patch phrasing? who knows, i do it constantly though.
