amen *****. i can defintley hear that sonic slouchiness in theor new record. i downloaded i and thought it would soud like check it out, but it does sound like a reaon record. thus a ***** refuses to purchase the material album. 2.

For me beasties were at their best on paul's boutique (most slept on album of the beasties) and check your head, Ill communication had also a few bangers but since then the quality is going down. That switch to reason definitely **** up their sound imo.

I couldn't help getting in on the Reason issue. Really, all of those soft synths and virtual studios are wack. Nothing sounds as good as the MPC. Not to mention the user-friendliness of the MPC interface and groove of the sequencer.

I think the album is brilliant, but Im a big beastie boy fan. I also heard that Mike D likes to use the 2000, MCA the 60 and ofcourse adrock the 1200.

overrated....Paul was cool, CHeck your head is still my all time favorite..of course License is a classic, but here, they're just slumming..

My friend who used to use reason more than I ever did recognized a Dr. Rex preset in one song. I picked some preset snares, You'd think they'd process this stuff so it doesn't sound so blah.

wow, im feelin the album big time. I love that open letter song to new york. They actually sampled that riff from a punk band.

ya know, I heard a similar thing when listening to a Roni Size album some time ago, wasnt a reason sound, but an absynth preset on the original synth before it become an NI product. It was one of the first pre sets. He went down big time in my estimations after I heard that. All too many artists it seems now rely on reason and it's pre sounds. For me, it's not just it's sound set though, cos of course you can load in your own samps. and stuff, but take the lack lustre delay for eg. The number of tunes I've heard with either lazy fills just utilizing the dely, or even whole beats constructed using it Argh!. That used to be a cool effect, but it's been destroyed now by over use and lazy programming. I also can't stand the swing of the thing. I'm not saying that MPC is better or worse, by when I hear a track/beat done in reason it makes me wanna pull my hair out, not dance my arse off. Reason = makes you lazy

Damn I gotta get to sweeden! That's close to how I feel, but s hit, programming soft synths is like pulling teeth compared to real analog, so I can't blame size on that s hit, but still it does kinda suc k.

Dont forget that Propellerheads who make Reason are in Sweden. End elab, who make many of their samples are also in Sweden.

On the plus side, so are Elektron, who make the Machine Drum and the SID chip thingy. But they're over priced.
