I like modplug tracker. I like the concept of trackers because its kind of more oriantated on hardware. A standalone program with sampler/sequencer/fx instand "mute groups" (tracks can only play 1 sample at a time) and kind of limited but also very nice for crative people to deal with theese limitations.
I've heard really comlex tracks you would never think it was made on a tracker software when there still was a big scene in 2000 (I don't know if there is still a scene). I will search on my HD and upload them so you can listen and watch how its done. <- Another plus for the tracker concept. Its an open fileformat. You can play for example IT (impulse-tracker file) or .mod files (module file) as audio on winamp or other media player but you can also load the same file to the tracker and see the elements and how its done.
