I'm sure a lot of you have either considered or have applied this method. If you're like me and can sit at the boards all day and turn out hit and misses this may be for you. What I am in the process of doing now is a tedious but to me refreshing.
What I recently made a new habbit is to create sound banks so to speak. I take either a 100Mb or 250Mb zip and I make sure not to format extra partitions. Next is the long process. I myself have numerous programs and some are basically copies of others just a couple different samples and tweaks different. So what I do now is load all my sounds onto one master zip. Because the MPC can only store 256 sounds max when I gewt the maximum I can load which varies due to sample sizes I save these sounds under a name like "Quick Transfer-A" This when I wish to transfer, sell or trade sounds all I have to do is hit load all pgms"Quick Transfer-A" or whatever the all pgms name is.
Another use for this kind of thing is again for those of you whom like me may use certain drum sounds a lot and tend to tweak them from time to time well heres a solution. save A pgm or all pgms and give it a new identifying name. So basically to sum up what I do is load up a bunch of sounds about 3/4 the size of my zip and leave the rest of the zip space for the programs/all programs commands or what some may identify as program maps/set ups.
on another disk I would make up folders and save my sequences in folders under the programs names. Why like this because on an average I use atleast 3 programs of sounds. I gotta have tight drum sets and I leave a program open in case I want to load up loops or non drum kit samples. Doing it this way in the beginning is a helluva task but it cuts back on saving errors big time. Your sounds are already on the zip all you would be saving is the pgm/all pgm blueprint.
And again all my songs and sequences I save in folders under the program or all programs names.
So what do you guys think, good idea or bad idea , and does anyone else have any suggestions?
