Choppin breaks

Okay If you have a break, do you cut it up into individual sounds then play each sound back as a new track (ex. start with hat for 2 bars, then kick for 2, then snare for 2) or do you play back the entire break as one pattern. This may sound confusing, but like ex. kick then hat then snare then hat then 2 kicks hat snare hat (all in one sequence) ... I find that if I do it like that I get more of a swing then if I tried droppin a beat with all original drum sounds on single tracks. Most kicks in breaks have a hat on em so I get a normal hh pattern. I don't use timing when I do this and normally its sounds dope. I just wanna see how you heads freak your mpc.

It depends on how I am chopping the break up. If i am chopping out phrases like a kick hat snare combo, or if I am chopping out hits. If I chop out hits, I'll put them on different tracks, but if I am choppin phrases, I'll put the reworked break all on the same track.

It really all depends on what you got and how you want to structure it.

I ALWAYS chop so that I can come up with my own drum patterns. I NEVER use pre-made drum patterns..

would it be considered cheating to chop a breaks record?

I meant choppin up a break then layin each sound out on seperate tracks
track 1 x-x-x-x (hh)
track 2 k---kk- (kick)
track 3 --s----s (snare)

or the break cut up like this
Track 1: k-x-s-x-k-k-s-s where k=kick, s=snare, x=hh
Just replayin the break on one track and rearangin it,
or or isolatin one sound on seperate tracks.
I could never use pre made loops, ish ain't me. I will buy individual sound samples (ie-kick, or a snare) but never 2 bars of someone elses drums. HELLA WACK

I ALWAYS bang out my hhats, snr's and kik's on Track 1, then later when I'm happy with the drum pattern I seperate them out to tracks like u stated.

I use a drum loop when it fits my loop and I couldn't come up with my own pattern, but that's a last resort. Usually I chop my kicks and snares off vinyl and load my hats off floppies and create my own patterns. Usually I do my kicks and snare on one track, hats on another track... or I do my hats and snare on one track and my kicks on another... depends on the feel of the beat...

I just stay in the habit of doing everything on it's own track. if you ever track into your computer or somebody else's you'll be used to doing your songs that way.
