Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

The DIGI001 has a very bad clock signal (believe me I know) so you better have the MPC as the master...

I've been able to get a clean signal out of the 4K using it as a master for the 001 through the SPDIF digital cable. But doing the same thing using the 4K's IB-4ADT board with the optical cable is still giving me clicks. I wonder if the PCI card with the 001 or the IB-4ADT is faulty somehow. Or may be I'm still missing something. Does anyone got the IB-4ADT with a clean signal? I'd be curious to know how you set it up.

Peace.

Okey, the DIGI001 clock sucks in the musical sence but the clicks should be gone...it's not that bad! What you can also try is to use a larger process buffer...

Now I start wondering, are you a mac or pc user?

HOLD IT!!!!! I may have the solution!!!!

You say that with the sp/dif connection things are working out...from that I think you have both ADAT and sp/dif connected at the same time right!?!?

Disconnect sp/dif when you use ADAT, set DAE to Optical and have another go at it! For some reason I think it's not a good idea to have both
sp/dif and ADAT connected at the same time because the system may not
be able to 'choose' from either signal.

Again, let me know if things work out!

Good luck

Vank, I'm running a G4 1Ghz DP. I do have both connected at the same time, so I'll try disconnecting the SPDIF. How would I set DAE to optical though, I don't see DAE in OS X. All I see is Hardware setup and session setup in PTLE for OS X.

Peace

Hardware setup is similar to OS9 so you should be able to set it to Optical there (This is where you also set input levels for the digi001's inputs)

Cheers

I'll let you all know how it works out in the next couple of days. Anybody got a 002 in their setup. How is that working out? I'm contemplating the upgrade as our dealer is offering hardware upgrades.

Peace.

GET i HEAR THAT THE 002 OFFERS REWIRE WICH INABLES YOU TO BOUNCE TRACKS WITHIN OTHER PROGRAMS LIKE REASON 2.5 AND OTHERS + PLUS SOME OTHER SHIT IN ADDITION TO THE FIREWIRE WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO WORK FROM A LAPTOP AND USE LESS SPACE OR BE MORE MOBLE. i WANT THE 002 BOARD OR RACK BUT WITH MY CURRENT COMPUTER SET UP (P3 1.0 GHZ) i HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO

After a few days of trying to make the ADAT work, I gotta conclude that it's the 001 at fault here. I was able to use the ADAT before a while back but I still had to go through and remove clicks after the tracks were recorded. But now it's at the point where the clicking is so intense that no audio comes through at all, just a bunch of clicks get recorded.

I wasn't planning on doing an interface upgrade so fast but I guess the time as come. I can do the upgrade through my work. 001 for a 002 rack for $1000 CDN. Not that bad. Thanks for the help peeps. If you got any last minute suggestions I'll take it still. But I think the 001 gots to go seen.

Peace.

Did you try changing the buffer size settings of the digi001?

Yeah, one of the first things I tried, no go.

As you are getting rid of your digi001 considder something by RME, they have really high quality stuff and I never heard something bad about them. I use a ADI-8DS as extra outputs for the digi 001 (to get16 analog outputs in total) and I made the RME clock master...I even makes the DIGI001 sound better because of a better clock...think about it :)

At least it wasn't me. We used another 001 PCI card to troubleshoot the ADAT problems and it turns out that the problem was on the card itself. No more clicks with the other card, I managed to trade with one of my boyz and ADAT is 100%.

Thanks for all the advice and Respect.
