Total Newbie! Reason or MPC1000

Reason includes a couple of software samplers - and can be an introduction to the process of working with samples and slices etc. I think that's what he's refering to.

Getting the FL Studio 8 Bible to break me in gently to all this. Will keep at it till it all clicks

Still got the MPC in the back of my mind but i'll defo get to grips with some software first to get the experience.

Someone mentioned the MPK49. In Lamen's How do Midi controllers & the like work with the MPC or software?

To keep it simple...

A MIDI is like a Computers Keyboard. The Letters on the Keyboard are in essence "Notes". Take the letter "A" for instance....


When you hit the key for "A" on your keyboard, your Computer recognizes that signal and translates it into what it needs to be for the program you are using.


MIDI is doing the exact same thing. But instead of letters, it is translated to key Notes/Sounds as determined by the hardware (Synth, Sound Module), or software (DAW's, ProTools, Fruity Loops). The beauty of the way this is setup by the industry, you can also remap the "Keys" to trigger whatever you want them to.

MIDI is just a standard signal used to trigger different things. A MIDI cable is no diff than say a USB cable. They carry signals and that is all....


So a Midi Keyboard in line with a DAW is useful because you have "Keys" like on a piano, to trigger your sounds in your DAW. You can map the "Keys" on your MIDI controller to control whatever you want.

So what about connectivity MPC to PC/Software. As i say i'll be using fruity loops & using a AISO enabled sound card (apparently needed for audio input) although i think it's in built to the motherboard rather than a card with any inputs @ the rear of the PC...USB???

Edit: what about keyboard contollers (i.e. MPK49) can you get the like with USB connectivity?

The dude needs to be told that you cannot sample with Reason, before he goes to buy it.

Reason can only playback samples, not create them.

Another application, such as Audacity or ReCycle, will be needed to create custom samples to use in Reason.

^ Yeah, i was aware of that. Friend told me to download Sound Forge to sample. I'm not using Reason anymore...FL Studio now. Thanks though
