Having them available as hard disk editing would be an added bonus but something I would rarely use. If that is the only functions you are concerned with, I would think HD tracks as they are will do just fine for most...especially since you can export the tracks to edit them in a more powerful DAW.

I am not myself concerned with adding those functions to the HD editing but in fact pointing out that I do not think it possible. Certain current products are using RAM for audio tracks in order to provide those tools but not with complete success (at time of writing), though workarounds/compromises are available.

Also, when I think more about it, it may not be possible to implement HD recording outside of Song mode for the simple reason that successful synchronisation may not be achievable unless there is a preassembled time event map provided and that is what Song mode does. I hope I am wrong about that :(

Otherwise we are left with the MPC5000 as it is and will be with OS2, and I for one am happy with that. No offence, but it's the first MPC that I personally can say that about :D

On a side note....I just left a computer store today. The have computers for under $600 that have Quad Core Processors and 6 GB of RAM. I wonder why we can't get this type of power in today's workstations (MPC, MV, Fantom G, Motif XS, M3, etc)?

Thats what I have been saying!!! Once Hardware can step their game up to these measures, then, we would have a better chance of competeing. Back then around the MPC 2000's, 3000, and 60... the system strengths made since, but now its ridiculous(because of the prices of computers, processors, RAM, and etc... at the moment), load and save times should even be waaayyyyy faster

I think that it might be nice for MPC's to run on non volatile memory... who cares if you dont save your work before turning of the machine if you dont need to.

The 5k records (harddisk) in 24 bit
The sampler is 16 bit (though it reads other bitrated samples)
The 5k exports (at your choice) 16 or 24 bit
So, the internal synth would get recorded in 24 bit on the harddisk
Putting sounds through the internal FX (24 bits as well) would get recorded in 24 bit as well on the harddisk

But: A/D convertors and other electronics are much more important on this whole issue.

The 5k sounds *excellent*, I have tested it against a 4k some time ago.
