For those that know ... How do the sequencers in the 3000 and 60 differ from the 2kxl on up ? For example , when I program in the SP1200 ( no quantize ) the sequencer is tighter , meaning my timing has to really be precise cause the sequencer is not that forgiving . On the other hand when I do the same with the 2kxl , I noticed that I can be a little off , but the sequencer will not play back the pattern verbatim , but very close. I always thought that you can cheat a little more on the MPC because of this . I also learned that even if you dont quantize , every sequencer is not the same . Anyway how are the sequencers in the older Roger Linn MPC's ? My 2kxl is falling apart on me and I'm really considering a older MPC just for their solid build alone .

If you can snag a 3000 do it.
They have a feel similar to the 2000xl, the only drawback is you have to edit the samples without a wave screens , meaning you use numbers.

It is tricky to find a used 3000 in excellent shape as they are workhorses.

Also on the 3000 when the backlight goes out it will run you less than half of what a 2000's screen costs..

The timing is solid and the quantizing is forgiving , but most importaintly the sound smashes a 2000 any day...

I find my mpc60 to be more sluggish then my mpc500... but that could be just me

that shit dont make any sense...your xl is falling apart cuz it's old and you're considering even older machine ? that has been beaten since day it came out? not to mention replacement parts are hard to get and usually more expensive since they're are getting harder to find. dont quanitze if you wanna keep your own groove.

Yeah it makes alot of sense . I came across a 60 II in a pawn shop and even though it was beat up , it felt and looked way more sturdier than the 2kxl . If I'm not mistaking the jog dial was even metal right ? It's not hard to tell that the Roger Linn MPC's and the newer ones were built different thats why I'm considering one . For the most part I do not quantize and if you payed attention to my post , I was saying that even on different machines with the quantize off , you will get different results . Some are more forgiving and some play back exactly what you play . The ASR-X for example , would take it a step further and throw your sequence off a little .

To me it makes sense as well, if you know what you want from it and are sure you are gonna use for that, I would take a 60 / 3k over a 2k any day of the week.

hahaha, kkkk enough said...I know, I know it's that magical swing :D

same way 120mph in europe is faster than 120mph in us. or 60degrees in alaska is colder than 60degrees in arizona... I suggest get 5 MPC 3000's and you'll be making Dre type beats as soon as you power them on...

Mr Guiness, the 60/3K have the ASQ-10 sequencers built in, XL don't, so, YEAH - DEF DIFFERENT SEQUENCERS.

i'll take quantize strength in a vanilla machine over a built in flavor any day.
i am the producer, i determine the timing. i don't want a machine that makes the decisions for me.

Most importantly, the 60 & 3000 are built better. They are like tanks!
