Solid HD for 2500

I'm in the market for an internal HD for my 2500, probably 80-100GB. What are the good brands? Please, only respond if you have had yours long enough to KNOW its value. Looking for the obvious pluses: build quality, quiet, fast.

i have the TOSHIBA MK8032GAX 80GB 5400 RPM drive and have had no issues. it's fast, quiet (you hear it a little when loading or when it is spinning, but outside of load/save screen it doesn't spin or read/write on jj os2).

got mine on newegg for 60 or so.

All laptop drives are quiet...you won't notice any difference in speed with the little of loading/saving you do on an MPC...and to really judge build quality of a harddrive, you will have to use it longer then the 2500 is on the market. That's my take.

True... I plan on using my 2500 for the rest of my life. I just wonder if my HD will hold up that long. Does anybody know whats the life-spam of a HD??? I mean what could possible go wrong unless you damage the MPC by dropping it or spilling liquids on it.

I would say, excessive heat exposure (unlikely in a spacey environment like the MPC) or excessive number of power on/power off cycles, meaning parts expanding/contracting due to the temperature changes. But I guess we're talking about a lot of cycles here.

just make sure you always back your sh*t up thats why i ended up using compact flash cards no moving parts easy to transfer and to me its faster to transfer from your mpc to you computer just take the compact out pop it in your port on you computer and bam u can transfer data fast since you can use usb 2.0 speeds on you computer

Maybe I should stick with my Sandisk Extreme II 4gb CF card then???

^^^ honestly its really preference.

it can go either way really. i find the cf slot works just fine for me and havent ran into any problems with it yet. i honestly dont need the massive hd in my mpc (althought thats not to say i dont have one in my mpc right now) but i keep all of my sh*t on externals or on my imac and im not transferring huge files.

so its kinda hard to recommend one over the other. haha sorry i know i didnt help much.
