Whats the difference between PC100 or PC133

Much props to my MPC heads and mad thanks to all those who have amassed the knowledge contributed to the board. I got a quick question about upgrading form 256 to 512 mem. And before you go, "dang this has been on the board hella times", check it. I found lots of info on the forum archives and im aware that the ram has to be paired, gotta be 168 pin, Dimm, and CL2. But my question is this.... Whats the difference between the 256MB PC100 or PC133 DIMM? Thanks yaw! .peace.

it is just an equasion used to explain the speed of the ram... not worth getting into.

get the faster one (the one with the higher number)


i actually find that calculation to be dumb.

There's nothing "dumb" about that, and actually it does not even have to do with an "equation".

The freqency says with which speed the RAM is read/written. Depending on how picky the hardware you use it on is, it can lead to problems if you use the wrong speed or pair memory sticks of different speeds. Although most of the time both speeds are compatible.

oh really, and I somehow thought the pc133 meant it was designed to run on a computer/MB with an FSB of 133mhz... not the speed of the memory itself. Go check pc66 memory... when that came out was it 66mhz? I dont think so.

umm..yes..that's what I said. What do you want to say?

I'm using PC 100 in my MPC1000 without glitches.

The MPC will probably force the PC100 ram to run at 133mhz, luckily a lot of PC100 RAM is compatible with this small overclock

But to keep it simple, try to get PC133
